You're just making up shit because you've got no evidence to base anything on. Your comment is close to the stupidest thing ever said on this forum.

It's ridiculous and pathetic to suggest that a team that has been in the Top 4 twice, and the Top 6 twice, 4 of the last 5 seasons has been taken easy in the last 2 seasons by anyone other than maybe Panthers, Storm, Roosters, and Souths. I'll also let you have Manly.

What's your actual evidence that the other 10 sides would've taken a team who had been in the Top 4 twice, and the Top 6 twice, 4 of the last 5 seasons, easy in the last 2 seasons. It's absurd.

The fact is, the stats have indicated we're the ones who've started taking teams lightly.

FMD...I thought I'd heard it all.
Well teams didn’t see us as a big scalp so we used to roll over the top of them. Now they’re coming after us every week.

Whoever reached out to Canterbury on behalf of Brad Arthur this week may want to hit the phones again – the Eels are clearly making up the numbers should they be there in September.

Given the way they are playing, there is no guarantee they will be. They have lost three of their past six games and they face a taxing draw leading into the finals.

Arthur has had to live with renewed speculation over his future at the club and it won’t go away after their performance against the Broncos.

He has another two years on his deal but anyone and everyone will tell you he needs to go deep into the finals to ensure he has a contract next season.

It’s starting to feel like it might be time to move on for both parties. The Eels look stale and uninspired. They seemed bereft of ideas against the Broncos.

Arthur has done a sterling job for the past decade but sometimes the magic wears off. The message stops finding its target.

Clearly, Walters’ message still resonates. After the Broncos were battered at CommBank Stadium three years ago, Seibold was asked whether he would apologise to the fans.

“I am not going to apologise mate,” Seibold bristled.

“I have worked damn hard this year. If I am not good enough then I would rather be in the arena failing than standing outside throwing stones.

“We’re in a sport where you want to win, I want to win. We work hard and make a lot of sacrifices. We want to win. We’re not here to make up the numbers and come eighth every year.”

No need to apologise this time round. This Broncos side is certainly not making up the numbers. They’re in with a chance. A red hot one at that.

So is this article giving credit to the Broncos or not?

You're just making shit up now Pou Bear to respond for the sake of responding.

You don't even believe half the bullshit you say sometimes.
So what’s your theory on why the team has struggled since mid-last year? And where’s your evidence? Two can play at this game merkin.

The evidence is that statistically we have fallen away dramatically from being the 3rd best defensive team, to the 11th best defensive team in the space of 12 months. Out right side edge defence always had issues, but every other part of defence was always rock solid most of the time. Now we leak like a sieve at any kind of adversity.

Has virtually the same group of players lost the skills, knowledge and ability to defend? No

You can make an argument that there was some injury issues surrounding Moses at the back end of last season, so we can probably excuse that period from considerarion related to the performance this season. Particularly considering we also fell apart at the back end of 2020 also.

So what has changed this season?

Attitude.

My view is that this has been caused for a variety of reasons, but there likely some level of disconnect amongst the playing group, and between some parts of the playing group and the management of the club (which also includes the coaching staff). I'm not saying it's complete animosity or anything, but I don't think everyone in the joint is 100% on the same page.

25% of the main playing group (Top 20 players that are your genuine first grade picked players) signed to play elsewhere in the off season hasn't improved the team.

The coaching staff getting to a point where they have virtually discarded two players with over 130 NRL games each hasn't improved the team.

The players not wanting to run hard, tackle hard, chase the collision, etc, hasn't improved the team.

Personally I just think the players have lost all resilience week to week. They can switch it on when they're exposed and challenged externally, but there is little resilience there when it's only internally challenged.

I just think they've hit a plateau and have stopped believing what they're being told by the coaching staff is 100% what they want to hear.

We were premiership favourites for a while with Penrith for the start of 2020 and had a 12-3 record with a very similar roster. We never really recovered from that mid season meltdown and have been mediocre for the most part ever since aside from a few flashes of brilliance. I don’t know how anyone can say the coaching staff is getting the best out of this roster when it’s well below what they showed 2 years ago. We’re just lucky the rest of the competition is mediocre so we can play ordinarily and still win a lot of games.

Well right now where are we? Roosters and Manly have had key players missing but if not they are a better side.
Are we on par with Canberra and Saints?

I'd laugh if we come out and beat Penrith and Manly over the next two weeks

As far as top 8 goes the most important games to win would be Manly and Souths. Both have a tough run and need wins to make 8. Storm winning tonight would be beneficial.
I have the Roosters storming home. At 26-1 I put $40 on to win it.
Horrid run with injuries but if Keary and JWH stay fit and Suali coming into his own and Manu they are going to scare sides if get into finals.

Nice post

i feel like our high effort players ie Gutho, Drown and Nrown are having much less impact in defense this year.

Also i feel like our back row really lacks the speed and athleticism to cover ground, to lead the line speed etc towards the end of each game i swear i see Lane blowing hard. Given how little we use our bench would it kill BA to give these guys a break?

I feel like our effort off the ball is atrocious in attack and defense.

Reed Mahoney is a shocking defender and has been for the majority of his time in first grade, we really need a guy like Peats.

Either Marata is injuried or hes checked out cause last season he was amazing, this year he has moments but i barely notice him any more.

We got some SLOW backs. Gutho and Sivo have to be some of the slowest ive seen.

There isnt a team in the comp that defends more up and in whilst being compressed than us..... and everyone knows it. We just dont have the speed and effort to compensate when it goes wrong.

Did we rush to re-sign him? I don’t think our management rushes into anything. I’m sure Arthur is the best value coach they could get.
Interestingly I heard it mentioned (in the media) eels re-signed BA to stop the media distraction of will or won’t he be the coach……but the club put clauses in his contract to safe guard sacking him (small pay out)……

maybe our board knows what they are doing…..time will tell…

That's the words coming out of Brad Arthur's mouth a while ago.
Maybe he was trying to use psychology to get the team up!

Pretty sure STG did the same with Hook last year.
