Interestingly I heard it mentioned (in the media) eels re-signed BA to stop the media distraction of will or won’t he be the coach……but the club put clauses in his contract to safe guard sacking him (small pay out)……

maybe our board knows what they are doing…..time will tell…
If I was the board, I would have put a clause in his contract, that this new contact couldn't be activated if the current contract was terminated prior to the expiration of the contract.

Well right now where are we? Roosters and Manly have had key players missing but if not they are a better side.
Are we on par with Canberra and Saints?

I'd laugh if we come out and beat Penrith and Manly over the next two weeks
I'd be shocked if we're at not worse highly competitive (within a try or so) for 80 minutes against the Panthers, and it won't surprise at all if we get the win.

I'd go as far as to say that if we're not in the contest for 80 minutes with the Panthers next week, that this will mentally destroy all belief the players have in their actual capabilities and we won't make the Top 8.

And then have a separate contract to state its not worth the paper its written on
Well that is a bit silly, but my clause is sensible. Technically the coach hasn't even commenced his new contract and should be under the terms of his current contract until it expires.

I wasnt trying to disagree, just the old contracts not worth paper gag

Tho i have a feeling when footy contracts get extended, the new one starts from the date they are extended. Covers the persons arse - probably to stop just what you are proposing.

Player contracts are generally like that, but only because it is advantageous to do that for either or both parties. Because the club either wants to use some money from the current season to alleviate costs in future seasons (salary cap reasons), or the player has demanded a pay rise and they have commenced a new contract.

There was no incentive to do either with the contract for the coach. There is absolutely no reason why the terms of the new contract can't commence until the current contract is complete in this instance. However, I suspect the activation clause I suggested would be unusual. But the coach didn't have to sign it if he didn't want to commit to the terms of the contract.

It’s not just about not turning up. We definitely turned up last night. It was the first game this year where we scored first and lost. We were just outclassed.

Merkins are probably disappointed that the Broncos being shit wasn’t the new normal after all. But they are a very wealthy club. They should be challenging for the top four every single year. Look at all their Origin players.
Firstly Broncos seem to have about 50 players in their top 30. How many 5/8ths do they have? And what about their sombrero? Now apparently Reece Walsh is coming to the club and they have Nui and Martin on books as current fullbacks as well. They've upgraded both centres and have Reynolds on huge money and look like keeping Haas on $1m. And the amount of quality players they have on roster and Bennett can't get any of them with the money he is offering. There needs an investigation but don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen!

We haven’t lost back to back games all season, and we’ve never lost back to back games at Commbank/Bankwest so we’ll either beat Penrith or buck our trend.

results this weekend have favoured us so far with Manly losing. Would be nice for storm to do us a favour and beat Souths (surely they won’t lose 4 in a row… that would have to be close to their biggest slump in Bellamy’s tenure).

Losing to Penrith next week also won’t be terminal, provided roosters beat manly and sharks account for Souths. If that happens, we’ll be in the same position we were going into this round despite back for back losses.

the key is the manly game. That is must win. We lose that and it’s over. Bulldogs goes without saying that we have to win. That should be enough. Bellamy will rest a bucketload in the final round of their finals spot is guaranteed which it should be.

Best to go with no or low expectations.
If we win you say I told you so.
If we lose you go I was expecting that 😁

I feel like going nuts tonight:

1. Russell
2. Sivo
3. Opacic
4. Gutherson
5. Blake
6. Brown
7. Moses
8. Campbell-Gillard
9. Mahoney
10. Niukore
11. Lane
12. Papali'i
13. Matterson (C)

14. Rein
15. Greig
16. Paulo
17. Cartwright

Not a bad side but don't expect anything to happen. BA just doesn't do anything radical.

What about for next year buy Tessi Nui off Broncos or Cowboy's Drinkwater and put at fb and move Gutho to centre? Adds speed to side at fb and usually centres don't have to be that fast. And a new coach, Flanaghan is proven and doubt sponsors would be too worried if he improved side which I think he will especially in defence. Just my 2 bobs worth.

What if Penrith put 30-40 on us next week. I reckon that would be terminal. Getting thumped at home in B2B games.

I know people should write the Storm off at their peril, but I actually think the Storm are in massive trouble. They're nowhere near the team they have been, and this seems more than a slump. I can't see them missing the Top 8, but it wouldn't surprise me if they're not in the last couple of spots of the Top 8.

I do like it and I posted a similar side the other night.
Do we expect almost a copy paste of the same 17 from the day? You bet.
Will he have the kahunas to make necessary changes? Probably not.
Mahoney is in need of a break. Is it for a game or be subbed halfway through each half? Not sure but he looks tired, banged up and seeing him more on the floor than ever.
Simonsson and Penisini need a spell in reserves. Guth has been out of position so many times this year its not funny.
Centre or I'm not joking hooker. Too slow for fullback.
Opacic needs to come back for his defence and actually does know how to run lines.
Waqa back to the right wing.
Maka out. JA out.
I like the inclusion of Greig. It's between him and Nrown.
I will say Kaufusi has actually been one of our better forwards.
Probably prefer Papalii at Prop instead of Nuikore. Paps defence leaves him wanting at times.
Let's hope BA does make changes. He has been too loyal to the players who continuously are not producing.
It's up to him to get this right.
At the moment the selection of the team is not right.
The balance is not right.
We need to energy from the bench which we don't get apart from kaufusi at times.
Cartwright will also bring it.
Greig with a 10-15 min spell in both halves should bring energy as well.
We need to ambush teams from the start. High energy, enthusiasm and commitment from the outset.
So often when you see we have started slowly its set the tone for us to be picked apart..Dogs, souths, Broncos.
We also need to also do more than just one out garbage. Teams are numbering up and belting us as it's so predictable and know it's coming.
We need to do a shitload more dummy half running.
The hooker if it's Mahoney or Rein need to a) tighten up the ruck and lead the defensive line.
I just hope we can still do something this year.
The GO button needs to be pressed now

Our club doesn't have a clue how to develop players..

Rein should have been in first grade all season with Hands/Yates as NSWcup hooker developing Thier skills not sitting on the bench.

JA should have been NSWcup 7 all season not near first grade and knocking down the door and having the fans complaining why he isn't in first grade.

Greig & Ogden should have also been rotated on the first grade bench to get more first grade time.

Would you say the NRL isn't a level playing field?
