Totally agree. There are alot of fickle Christians who claim this as persecution or reading some bad words about them amount to persecution. We're not being fed to the lions or used as human torches like the first Christians and we're certainly not facing what alot are over seas.
With the actual persecutions happening, it’s not like those are limited to treatment of Christians. Lots of Muslims/CCPs hate Christians and gays

That's because bad words are considered bigotry/persecution these days, and moderated on social media. In some cases bad words about identity groups are illegal. So we have to decide if bad words are persecution or not, and then we need to apply it consistently.

Why not allow both?
The Pride jersey has 6 stripes across it that have been coloured from white to 'rainbow' colours. Why not just let the dissenting players wear the normal white striped jersey? It won't be confused with the oppositions jersey.

The club should just have come out and said to all players "As a club we are supporting 'gay pride' this weekend by changing the white strips to colours on our jersey. If for any reason you are not comfortable wearing this, we will let you wear the normal jersey, but as a club we want to show our support for LGBTQI+ community, so we hope you will all get on board."

No news story if they had done that.
Like how SBW did not have gambling sponsors on his Roosters jersey ?

IMHO there are no winners in the gay pride situation as the "white stripes" players will be called bigots by some.

If I was the club, I probably would have left it in the drawer. Pretty gutless, but it's caused too much negative publicity. I would have supported it differently with a media day supporting LGBT and the pasifika players can stay home.

Sometimes these positions can just backfire.

Yeah, I don't see the fuss about this, tbh.

We've been flat out robbed, and in bigger games:

2007 - Final against Melbourne, Morrison scores in the corner; vision of the grounding is obscured by defenders; goes to video ref (before the days where the onfield ref needed to make a call, prior to sending it for review); video ref looks at footage 20 times, and claims no try - despite the fact that the rule states that if there is doubt, the benefit of the doubt goes to the attacking team; if they reviewed the footage 20 times, they clearly had doubt

2021 Final against Penrith - dubious high tackle penalty, allowing their trainer to slow the game down when we were on the attack

2009 Grand Final - Slater dropped the ball on halfway cold; Moimoi was penalised, they match down field, and Inglis kicks the field goal
2006 against Melbourne - Glenn Morrison denied a fair try with 20 mins to go. When he grounded the ball. Lost 12-6.

2017 against Melbourne - Forward pass on JAC 1st try lost by 2 points.

Seems we always get shafted come finals time in Melbourne. Outside of 2019 we have always been competitive against them without beating them in a final with some 50/50 going against us.

As a Christian I am sure you are fully supportive of inclusion, acceptance and tolerance ?

"What would Jesus do ?", is a very powerful interrogation.

It's a good point, but an important caveat here is that while he ate with these people he didn't tell them that the sinful things they did (prostitution and working for the government) are okay. He certainly didn't celebrate them. That's the difference.

Not gutless but yes.

I guess it comes down to whether people see it as promoting homosexuality (or just superior dress sense), or simply accepting people regardless of their sexuality. They possible could have avoided a lot of this by not calling it a 'pride' jersey, because this doesn't make a lot of literal sense to a person that does not the possess the attribute of which they are purported to be proud. I'm certainly not proud of my homosexuality because I'm not a homosexual. Obviously 'pride' has taken on a much broader practical usage though.
Flip it and ask if you're proud of your heterosexuality. WTF is there to be proud about? It's not even a choice.

I mentioned that sports, and politics, shouldn't mix, but it's easy to see why the temptation exists to have them together - you will reach a hell of a lot more people using sport to promote a concept, than through other means.

I suppose it's about trying to make LBTQI people feel welcome.

As you said, it's not a choice, so rational people shouldn't have an issue with it to begin with.

But if the world was filled with rational people...

I don't understand the argument from the LGBQTI+ side that the players happy to wear clothing with gambling and alcohol on it. When has Christianity been against gambling and alcohol in recent times? Jesus loved his wine.

In the 'berra, a Christian Club is one of the biggest owners of poker machines and sellers of alcohol in the entire city.

Unless the players knew this would be required when they signed their contract then clubs shouldn't be forcing it on them. They pay them money, not own them.

Yes, there is alot of persecution across the globe and the coverage is largely silent by the media.

Why is it a side? That’s the whole point of inclusivity that their isn’t any sides, everyone is just a bloody human.

if you’re happy to share a change room and field with someone who (allegedly) bashed his missus whilst she was holding a baby, but can’t bring yourself to wear a rainbow stripe for 80mins you have issues
