so you’re asking a straight guy to wear colours supporting something he may or may not support. Where’s the players rights?
maybe we should ask atheist gays and lesbians to start going to churches, mosques, temples and other places of worship to show support to religious people around the world.
Your logic is all over the place. It depends what is being 'supported'. The issue here is acceptance or tolerance of difference (or 'inclusion' if you like). IT doesn't mean that you have to 'agree' with other people's lifestyle, or to advocate it. You are just acknowledging that you respect their right behave as they see fit given that they are not hurting anyone else.
Players have the right to not play. I wouldn't care if they were permitted to play, but not wear the top. That way they publicly demonstrate their disagreement with ideas of tolerance and acceptance.
Your example about asking atheists, gays and lesbians to go to church to show support to religious people is not in any way similar to what is going on with the jersey thing. The obvious equivalent of the current controversy would be to ask players to wear a jersey acknowledging people's freedom of religion and belief. And I'd have no problem with that. Nobody is suggesting that the players have to go on a Pride march.
