Sorry, don't follow your logic here. Nothing that Manly are doing is requiring their players to engage in 'non-straight' behaviour. If the Eels management wanted the players to wear a shirt supporting the right of others to cross-dress, it would be rather weird, but I wouldn't see the problem with it.

so you’re asking a straight guy to wear colours supporting something he may or may not support. Where’s the players rights?

maybe we should ask atheist gays and lesbians to start going to churches, mosques, temples and other places of worship to show support to religious people around the world.

This is perfectly acceptable. There’s always going to be outrage from hardcore components.

Which group, homos or religious, has been more marginalised?

You said cross dressing is ok, therefore supporters should also cross dress. You know you can support something without actually partaking in it?
I support indigenous rights. Should I put on black face to show my support?

Anyone who is pro-euthanasia is in for a shock

Did anyone make you support indigenous rights, or your own choice?

Cross dressers are a minority. Do we have to support every minority group there is? Where does it end?

I'm not sure we can really determine that; much like homosexuality was 50 years ago, cross-dressing has been marginalised to such an extent, that getting accurate numbers on who enjoys it is nigh on impossible.

The objective of event such as this is to embrace everyone (as long as they're not hurting anyone), and to celebrate diversity.

Your logic is all over the place. It depends what is being 'supported'. The issue here is acceptance or tolerance of difference (or 'inclusion' if you like). IT doesn't mean that you have to 'agree' with other people's lifestyle, or to advocate it. You are just acknowledging that you respect their right behave as they see fit given that they are not hurting anyone else.

Players have the right to not play. I wouldn't care if they were permitted to play, but not wear the top. That way they publicly demonstrate their disagreement with ideas of tolerance and acceptance.

Your example about asking atheists, gays and lesbians to go to church to show support to religious people is not in any way similar to what is going on with the jersey thing. The obvious equivalent of the current controversy would be to ask players to wear a jersey acknowledging people's freedom of religion and belief. And I'd have no problem with that. Nobody is suggesting that the players have to go on a Pride march.
