Yes it does. There is no loan contract. It is a renegotiation of all deals. What the Knights want is Klemmer off their books next year. What Klemmer wants is at least as much money as he is already going to get if he sticks with the Knights contract.

Its basic common sense. I reckon the bigger issue is Klemmer only wants to play 2 more seasons and then hang up the boots. He started footy young and I don't see him playing into his early 30s.
If we threw 250k to them this season and 300k-350k for the next the deal probably gets done.
Problem is in 2024. We may have a few young middles ready to roll that the club rates. And with RCG,MATTO,JNR all signed for another 4 seasons our middles quite stacked.

I think he's got a few kids. I reckon money is important to him, even if he's busted. Which I don't think he is.

What I find odd is why did it come down to the last day? Did BA only just realise he needs another prop?
Could of tried to sort something 2 or 3 weeks ago. Its clear Makatoa and Kafusi don't offer the punch he wants. That's why they don't get long minutes.

Our Recruitment and retention team and the process they have has been called snail's pace in the past.

Look I am happy they have a process and don't just go out on a whim and wreck the cap. I think it's smart to a point but also can be negative as well.

As i don't feel they are agile enough at times and they probably dont have enough footy nous there like the Roosters and storm.

Look at Papali'i last year and not upgrading him earlier we aren't in the situation now where Papali'i is trying to break our of a contract with a basketcase like the Tigers to stay.

Unless we dropped them 250k for this year and perhaps 300-350k for next. Then they only would need to fork out 200k. Probably a good deal for everyone.

Sounds more like Klemmer wanted an extra year added to the deal. And who knows what his asking price was. My guess is your suggestion of 500k. At his age our club just didn't want him for 2024. And if where to take him it would only be on the cheap. 200-250k for 2024.

The lowballing of Papali’i was the biggest clusterf**k in recent memory. I’d be happy to forgo obtaining a player for this season if we could top him up and sign him long term/assuming he reneges the Tigers deal.

Also the way Nathan Brown is being treated assuming it’s only ‘form related’ is a disgrace. If he isn’t a better option than Makatoa than I’m not the best member on these forums.

I don’t like this practice of top clubs picking at the carcasses of the lower ranked clubs to strengthen their sides before the finals. I hope the NRL stops this bullshit. In saying that as an Eels fan I hope we do get Klemmer but I recognise the fact that it’s ruining the integrity of the game.

Maybe so, but I think it highlights how we might have gone about things the wrong way. The Storm and Roosters targeted players out of favour at their current clubs and who they're comfortable they can get them to play a role and players not looking to stay on their books for 2023 (Nofo is returning to the Tigers right? And Gildart returning to ESL)..... We looked at a couple of high-priced ageing props who wanted to leverage the current trade window to get an extra couple of years on decent coin.... And we end up with nothing. But that's actually better IMO than if we had have ended signing either Tapau or Klemmer for 2023 and god forbid 2024....

That's about it I suspect. As per one of my other posts, you wouldn't want to go near $800k for a third prop.
