Because you’re right, if the cap goes up by $500k (for example) the majority of the increase will go to the top 20 or 30 players in the comp. Most players would see f**k all extra money when the cap goes up unless the NRL agreed to a decent bump to the minimum. But it’s up to the RLPA to push this, and since it’s dominated by senior players they don’t really give a f**k.

Even the top 20 or 30 is a stretch if this were to happen.

You would find the cellar dwellers offering $1.3m and $1m to $1m and $800k players respectively to get them over the line.

In due course this would just result in all marquee players in the game lining their pockets further.

Any raise in the salary cap in the immediate future should be met with greater inflation to the minimum wage.
