The problem is no one knows how good he really is without him being on the juice
^^^^ From wiki link above “For all you haters calling me a drug cheat, you all have no clue how much I put in the work to be where I was"

It also said he got caught for Anabolic androgenic steroids. It seems to me that as much as he may have put in hard work in training, the physical advantages and the fast recovery that he gained from steroids may very well be the reason why he reached elite rookie status.

Because testosterone affects muscle growth, raising its levels in the blood can help athletes increase muscle size and strength, along with some other benefits such as improved endurance. Anabolic steroids can be taken in tablet form or injected directly in to the muscle.

Athletes who use anabolic steroids claim that as well as increasing muscle mass, they reduce body fat and recovery time after injury.

Good old Clinton my first season I remember watching was 1999 as a kid and he was my first favourite eel player.

Shame he left to Canberra do you reckon we would have been better off instead keeping him over Hodgson.
Hard to say, Hodgo did pretty well...

Unlike the halves and hooker, fullback is one position we have been very lucky in terms of high performers since the late 90's - Choc, Hodgson, McKinnon, Hayne, Gutho...

I reckon the three best full backs we've ever had are: Thornett, Hayne and Gutherson. I loved Shifkofski, but his best years were at Canberra.
I can't comment on Thornett. The fact there is a grandstand named after him and he wasn't part of the glory years of the 80s he must have been a special player.

Hayne's natural talent and ability along with freakish stuff he did was incredible. Unfortunately his legacy here is tarnished a touch due to other endeavours like pissing off to the GC when returning to the NFL bagging the club in the process before begging to come home 12 months later and obviously the off field dramas.

The fact we really only had a 2 month period in 2009 of success with Jarryd is such a shame given his talent. After that GF we never played finals again with him.

It's a interesting discussion or debate if we can win the comp with Gutho at the back.

Whose career would be looked at more fondly in parramatta's fans eyes. Hayne or Gutho.

Hayne with the freakish skills and individual awards/highlights.

Or Gutho with the effort, teancity he brings every week along with the team success.

If we win a comp with Gutho as captain he will be forever held in higher esteem than Hayne hands down, if he isn't already.

Talent wise Hayne probably has pretty much every Eel there's ever been covered but for sheer will to win and effort, he's probably not in the top 100 or 200.

Hayne for the highlights, Gutho for the legacy....

Hayne was the best I’ve seen but Gutherson is the best bang for buck player that we have had since Hindmarsh.

I was about 9 or 10 when I saw Thornett
towards the back of his career. I still remember him doing things in games that is considered unbelievable these days.
When he came to Parra we started to make the semis regularly.
The only other player who joined us and we improved and made the semis regularly is
Ray Price.

That’s a huge telling stat. Was he that much of a selfish, pig headed player that brought so much distraction?
Or just a convenient scapegoat????
I’m sure that it was not Hayne’s fault that we totally shat ourselves that year, but perhaps him being entitled, overpaid and under performing did not help. We also still had Corey Norman, just quietly.

IIRC we had a year like the Broncos had this year since origin. The rot started with that 40 degrees at Lottoland where Manly put 50 on us. Then every match we’d find a new way to lose.

What was our team towards the end of the year ? Not many leaders.

Norman
Hayne
Jenko
Gutho
Genko
Salmon
Moses
Evans
King
Vave
Marata
Tepai
Terapo

Rheed
Mannah
