I’m sure that it was not Hayne’s fault that we totally shat ourselves that year, but perhaps him being entitled, overpaid and under performing did not help. We also still had Corey Norman, just quietly.

IIRC we had a year like the Broncos had this year since origin. The rot started with that 40 degrees at Lottoland where Manly put 50 on us. Then every match we’d find a new way to lose.

What was our team towards the end of the year ? Not many leaders.

Norman
Hayne
Jenko
Gutho
Genko
Salmon
Moses
Evans
King
Vave
Marata
Tepai
Terapo

Rheed
Mannah
Gower
Taka
Your right i dont think recovered from that flogging at Manly in Round 2 and we just never got into any form for the rest of the year.

The only time in the last 5 years we’ve missed the finals was when he came back to the club…
With Hayne (last five finishes):
2011: 14th
2012: 16th
2013: 16th
2014: 10th
2018: 16th

Without Hayne:
2017: 4th
2019: 5th
2020: 3rd
2021: 6th
2022: 4th

To be fair, we have been a more stable and stronger club since 2018, so it's hardly all Hayne's fault. But I think there's plenty of evidence that he is a negative influence. Bennett said the team's leaders are more important to success than the coach. This would explain why at most clubs they are paid more.

I think (and am amazed certain other posters haven’t brought it up) that flogging was a symptom, not the cause. We went into that season severely underdone. Certain players may have affected that but BA judged that preseason horrendously. Hopefully he has adjusted to that, and subsequent, season to put us in a better place now.

I think the senior players would have the most influence on the success of a pre-season. These are the merkins who drive standards and give the coaching staff the feedback they need to manage the program.

He took those drugs to help with injuries apparently, not for recreation.
Firstly steroids aren’t a recreation drug.
Secondly he’s a professional athlete who knows using steroids, even if they were innocently for injury recovery, is going to give him an advantage in gymming it.
Thirdly look at the selfie he is taking. Do you honestly reckon he only took them for injuries?

So which fu*k wit decided to bring him back in 2018. It certainly wasnt any fan I spoke too.
Ranks with the Foran and Watmough signings for mine.

I hope so that was off a WC and shorten pre-season. I think we had a 10-11 play in the 2017 WC for other nations.

Lets hope same mistakes don't get repeated for next year.

We needed a strike outside back to replace Radradra. Hayne won the Dally M in his last season with our club (2014). He was even our top tryscorer in 2018.

Watmough and Foran were proven winners. Nobody could anticipate either player would break down at our club. Foran has played over a hundred games since leaving Parra ffs

Don't the senior players come back later than the others

I remember each year, i read that on tct
