Right, I have a left field option for a 14.
Someone with ticker, bit of grubiness, very versatile and could play a number positions in the fwds.
Would not cost a lot.
Don't even think he's off contract but would suit us..come on down Jazz Tevaga.
Agreed and I think he is off contract. He's got an option and hasn't exercised it yet.

Come to think of it, will hodgson be out backup half?

Rein plays 14 and if the halves goes down, hodgo to fit in there....

Naaah, it's ja's
That could fit into the reported BA quotes about Jake being NSW Cup bound for 80min games as a half - which is where Jake should be in terms of his career development (rather than only ever as a 5-10min first grade bench option).

Rein (or someone like him who can fill 20+ mins at dummy half) on the first grade bench, and Hodgson providing cover for in-game halves injuries - with Jake to be available for selection to cover any longer term halves absences.

Anyone who looks at missed tackles as the sole indicator to cast judgement is a drip.

His tackle efficiency is 92.1 % which is not elite, but certainly not that bad.

He isn't a strong player. His best skill is his long passes but they don't work unless have an overlap. You want short quick passes like Penrith do. Less air time means players are hitting the defemse quicker.

Some of our slugs left him isolated too often. I suspect he attempted more one-on-one tackles than any other hooker. One of the strengths of Penrith’s defence is that no merkin ever has to make a tackle by himself in the middle of the field.

What about other sides defense where hooker misses less? Ours isn't that bad.

Our defence is mid-table. Is Mahoney’s tackle effectiveness that poor compared to everyone else? His work rate (tackles per minute) is fairly high, especially for an 80 minute player.

It's not great. You tend to have excuses for everyone.
Even if Mahoney makes tackles they are not dominant. He takes a while to bring a guy down and doesn't chop them down like an axe. Think Cook,Egan or Robson.

Mahoney is a bad player. Quite a good one but has weaknesses. So even if we where to say he is an average defender not below or above average you must look at his over all game.

Defense - Average
Work rate - Excellent
Game smarts - Good
Ball playing - Very good
Run game - Below average
Engaging markers -Below average
Kick game - Above average
Energy - Excellent
Pass service - Excellent
Craft/Suprise factor - Average

Compare it to Grant

Defense - Above average
Work rate - Average
Game smarts - Good
Ball playing - Excellent
Run game - Excellent
Engaging markers - Excellent
Kick game - Above average
Energy - Excellent
Pass service - Excellent
Craft/Suprise factor - Excellent

Happy to argue the above grades and points. This is just how I see him as a hooker. People carry on about his long pass game. But it's over rated. Balls in air for 2 seconds and in that time the opposition is in your face ready to smash your guy standing flat footed. You want a guy who engages the markers and then can fire a quick sharp short ball with little air time with your player running onto the ball. You limit the time the defense has to read the play and line you up and smack your lights out.

Mahoney is now a dog, literally.

We can bag the shit out of the cauliflowered eared midget all we want. He’s small, slow and selfish. Probably the best service in the NRL but he hasn’t improved his game at all.
Poor Reed has got a lot on his shoulders. Gus has had to overspend on less vital positions because he doesn't have a top notch fullback or half.

Burton is too shelf mate with a boom kick. But he ain't silly he knows what he is worth. I reckon Dolphins should of went for him. And thrown a illy amount butnI guarantee he stays at Dogs for about 850k. He'd be getting 150-200k in TPAS.

On open market easily attracts 1-1.1mill offers based on his age, skills and the booming kick.

Issue with Dogs I feel is Burton isn't the best defender. Either is Kikau or Reed. They'll have good attack but unsure how the defense holds up
