I agree I reckon ogden or momoisea will offer more

I'm not sure they'd offer more. Taupau is still putting out good numbers, they were better than Oregon's last year. But whoever plays that other middle forward roll off the bench will have limited minutes. Is it worth paying heaps of money to Taupau for him to play only 20 minutes each week?

Top 30 Salary Cap for 2023 is $11.45 million, a 22% increase on 2022, but players with ratchet clauses only get a 18% increase. How does that work?

Min Wage now $120k for all players in the Top 30, and the cap for development players is now $650k. I think that Development List is being increased to a maximum of 10 though I heard somewhere? I wonder if you essentially get $65,000 per player, or whether you can just have 5 players on $120,000 if you want?

So you've basically got $7.85 million to allocate above the minimum wage however a club sees fit. I think this was about $6.5 million in 2022.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but this should be an advantage to clubs resigning current players as they can restructure existing contracts to allow for the increase? Like us with Moses?

You'd think so, although if you were paying 4 rookies the previous Rookie Wage of about $85k, then you're up for another $35k each, and everyone on the minimum wage I think just got a $10k pay rise, so there is a potential $200k you've already lost. That is also assuming that the media release indicates the Rookie Wage is abolished and the general Minimum Wage has not increased to something more above $120k a year.

Actually I'm surprised the increase is for 2023 given clubs will have most of their rosters and especially most of their stars already contracted for 2023. This will actually be a massive benefit to clubs looking at retaining players, for that exact reason. If they haven't already committed the increased 2023 cap through ratchet clauses then they have all that extra space to frontload contract extensions. Maybe we'll keep Moses and Penisini after all.

He might end up doing 60mins, if Matterson does 60-80min mainly on the edge?

Apparently, Bateman has signed offically and will be announced very soon. I reckon we should make a play for Blore and offer Nathan Brown. Blore is a very solid player and he's only 22 years old. Plenty of potential and I reckon BA would get the best out of him. At worse he provides competition for Doorey and comes off the bench. It's definitely worth a look at imo.

They might be right, but we’ll never know. I mean, if Moses leaves we’ll know that ‘never in doubt’ was wrong. But if we keep him we won’t know if he was ever a realistic chance of leaving.

Not against it at all. I obviously remember that game him and Brown went head to head. Has he brought that intensity on other occasions? I can’t really think of him standing out but it’s probably hard to in that Tigers team.
