Russel could be a superstar. Who knows. But my little birds told me we won't have anything of much quality come from our juniors until atleast 2024 but more like 2025.

For some reason it makes me think they don't rate Russel that much. Of course that was just a loose statement. How I took it anyhows. The fact they also moved him from Fullback to wing seems to me that they don't think he could make it at NRL level in that position so gave him a crack at wing.

Dunster hasn't played 80 minutes of competitive league since 2021. What has Dunster done over Russell to walk straight back into first grade in 2023 (besides being born a few years earlier)?

How was Dunster first choice winger in Round 1 2022... when Russell was first choice winger in the preceeding trial v Panthers and also selected as first choice winger in the Round 1 team against the Titans?

By what metric? Their win rate is nearly identical. Russell's try scoring rate is much higher than Dunster's. Russell's tackle efficiency is slightly better, but Dunster's average running metres are a bit better. I don't know how you can say Dunster is better. They are pretty even.

Russell's sample is very small and skewed by half a game against the Titans where he scored a hat trick. Anyone would have scored those.

The round doesn't really matter. He was ahead of Russell for an NRL wing spot, as was Sivo (who was also unavailable). I assume Sivo was first winger picked (when available) and Dunster was fighting for the other spot with Simonsson. Russell only played when we had two wingers (Sivo and Dunster) unavailable. The evidence is that Russell didn't come back into the team after Sivo returned. Waqa Blake was also preferred on the wing, with Opacic playing centre.

That said, after another pre-season who knows where Russell will be? The youngest players develop the most over an off season. Guys like Russell, Penisini, Arthur and Loizou are only 20. They are likely to have more improvement in them than a 23-year-old like Dunster.

You said Dunster performed better in his first grade “opportunities”. You can’t just ignore Russell’s opportunities because he had less. I’m sure Anyone could have scored Dunsters 3 tries in his 14 games too. I still don’t see how Dunster performed better.

I remember one he picked up on his finger tips running full ball. I'd say 99% of players drop that.

Plus coaches would of had a lot of NSW cup games to follow to evaluate. Reality is Opacic and Simmonson held him out. Solid played but hardly anything special.
Neither would of held Haze out. Russel may explode onto the scene. I'd lean to the fact he will most likely at best be just an average player.
Amd I hope I am wrong but you want to be dominating at NSW CUP level. Games I seen he did very little. Cini looked better.
