Plus coaches would of had a lot of NSW cup games to follow to evaluate. Reality is Opacic and Simmonson held him out. Solid played but hardly anything special.
Neither would of held Haze out. Russel may explode onto the scene. I'd lean to the fact he will most likely at best be just an average player.

He’s very average. His speed is non existent, doesn’t really break any tackles. Nothing special about his game apart from he’s a reserve grader. To sum him up , he’s very Jake Arthur.

I'd imagine they would let Moses walk and be happy knowing JA is going to be the next off the block.

The thing is they don't rate him. They see him as someone who can fill in for the odd game. Being young and has some improvement and time to learn the system. And cheap.

If you watch NFL sides 2nd or 3rd strong QB can sometimes be upgraded but they prefer to keep who they have cause they know the system well. Makes it easy if need to call upon them.
If they get to good then a weaker side will snag them. It's a fine balance.

Yes that's true. But if you followed his career he has been injured a lot. And then there was the whole covid thing that ruined 2020/2021 so that wouldn't of helped his development.
I am not saying he isn't average. I'm suggesting Russel is also no better. Neither are in Penisini class. Haze however showed a lot of improvement in his games and was stronger then I imagined. Barely ragdolled.

I wouldn't be suprised if we look to sign another back before season kicks off. Lock ins are

This i think could help him make it. I remembered when he first came into the team, he was ragdolled and dominated.

He went and fixed his game and was no longer ragdolled afterwards. He has bulked up and hope he has learnt how to use that bulk and becoming a bullocking player like To'o.

Russell looks light to me. But I could be wrong. Reminds me of Joel Reddy.. can weave around and a student of the game.

I still think we should give Dyl a go at FB. I want to see what his running game is like from there and how he can chime in on both sides of the ruck. Happy to even stick Guth at 6.

Simmonson is a lot better than the other three imo.

This is exactly what I’ve been saying. Dunster is not a walk up start over Russell. They are both very similar, i.e. average wingers. The main difference is Dunster hasn’t played a game in forever.

Dunster started slow, but was getting better each game. He was pretty impressive in his last game against panthers in the final, close to one of our best that game.

If that performance is his standard, he is the best winger at the eels.

Agree. Has potential, and is only young... but to me isn't someone currently that wouldn't be displaced if we sign a better centre. (Although we'd have to sign a second better centre for Penisini to lose his spot, since we let Opacic go without replacement...)

You said Dunster performed better in his first grade “opportunities”. You can’t just ignore Russell’s opportunities because he had less. I’m sure Anyone could have scored Dunsters 3 tries in his 14 games too. I still don’t see how Dunster performed better.

Both samples are so small that tries scored is irrelevant. The more granular statistic is metres gained, and Dunster far outperformed Russell, especially in his most recent games.
