But on Lui if the club didn't rate him to begin with why did they bring him here? That seems strange.

They might’ve rated him an outside chance. He was probably very talented, carving up through the junior ranks. Every NRL club knows about these guys. If they get cut by a club while still eligible for junior reps there’s plenty of suitors willing to give them another shot. Often you don’t really know why a dude was cut by his previous club until you bring him in and see he’s lazy or a f**kwit or whatever. Maybe you think your leaders and systems will be able to change his attitude when his last club couldn’t.

In the last 12 games of the year Taupua made 30 TB vs Kafusi 11. He also had 13 offloads vs 4.
Also remember one is playing in a dominant pack and the other is balls against the wall in one of the weaker packs in comp.
He would be very handy for a season. Type of guy who may even turn back the clock and potentially be as good as Jnr or RCG for a lot of games. Based on age I wouldn't imagine week in week out but he is still a year younger then Hargraves

He played half the season in each grade (13 + 12 games) this year. I reckon that would’ve been better than just playing reserve grade.

Agree but if he had a strong kicking game he would have that along with solid defense and an ok pass game. He is never going to have an explosive run game or be a half that demands 600k+
Could be a handy back up for sure on 200-250k.
Would be handy having someone on the books like that in top 30. Good for when halves need a rest or injured.

I’m hoping Taupau is the type that will fit in well with what Junior and RCG have going on and that they all drive one and other

Who said he would be the next great? Every club signs 13-year-olds. The difference is we were one of the first, and because it’s the Eels it made the news.
