Rumours and Stuff

We are way too predictable. Kicking to the left winger is catching practice and most often is followed by a poor chase. I was at the game last night and the right winger for Nulla wasn't even dropping back as he knew he could conserve his energy and not worry about being pressured. There were times Moses could've and should've kicked to open pastures ie across his body.
The half bomb kicks are pathetic.
When Moses smacked a torpedo in the air Kennedy spilt it.
Simonsson and Waqa just no. Waqa puts effort in but has no footy smarts.
The bench use is nothing short of deplorable and what you would expect from an u14s coach desperately trying to win a game whilst hiding his benchies. You could see RCG was buggered. Jnr did some really strong carries, Hopgood fantastic again and Cartwright has been excellent the 2 games. I know ppl put shit on him but I can't fault his effort and commitment last 2 games. For mine he has a bench spot once Lane and Matto come back
Just on Murchie. I like him and he is a good backrower but he ain't a middle.
The 2 middle benchies Wiremu and Makatoa got 2/5 of FA on the field.
Momoisea im happy to drive back to Newcastle. Free of charge.
BA has a lot of work to do. The fwds for most part have stood up. The backs have let us down. I'd have Lumelume ahead of Simonsson. Simonsson makes more metres than anyone but it's sideways. He can't bust the line and for someone who is supposedly fast, I am yet to see it.
Next 3 weeks will determine our season. If we are 0-5 that I'm afraid will be season over

At what point do you give him his marching orders? Sign him up to 1.25m for 5 years? What makes you think he is the best we can get for that time and on that money?
If that is what he is being offered at Tigers then he should definitely sign with them as it is ridiculous. Not the money (I don't know if $1.25m is too much or not anymore for a top 4 half) but 5 years is too long. I'd never give anyone 5 years unless it was for low $.

Our backs for me are really letting down our forwards. They work hard to get in good field positions then Waqa or Simmonson drop it etc. Also, so many dumb plays that shouldn't be happening in an NRL team. For me I like Doorey he has potential but when Matto's back he needs to start for him. Doorey solid but has no real danger about him. I think when everyone's back we field a team of:
1. Gutherson
2. Sivo
3. Asi
4. Penisini
5.Blake/Dunster
6. D.Brown
7. Moses
8. RCG
9. Hodgson
10. Paulo
11. Lane
12. Matterson
13. Hopgood
14. Cartwright
15. N.Brown
16. Murchie
17. Doorey
Dunster over Blake when he's ready

After watching Dunster yesterday I have a real fear for his future. Very early days though. Id have Cini in the centres and lets grab Toupu now given hes unwanted.

Not bad but how good would it be if we had Cini and Penisini in the centres.😀
Asi is a good player too. Could even be the perfect 14 being able to play a number of positions.
Doorey is fine. More match fitness. Otherwise start Murchie.
I think Matto now plays exclusively middle..however be interesting how this plays out now Hopgood has shown he can do the same job if not better.

Does goal kicking ability contribute to a players salary?
#honestquestion
I think it does. Unfortunately i have zero confidence when Moses is kicking for goal. Looks like he has a different goal kicking style this year. Being in and around soccer as well all my life he is too square when moving in to kick the ball.
He needs to come around the ball more. Hard to explain over text but easier to visualise

Hopgood is playing big minutes as well and I really don't see Matto as a prop. Hopgood is an out-and-out lock Matto isn't. I think Mattos is very good on the edge and it's where he's needed atm. Don't think Cini is ready for NRL yet until he fixes his defense. I'd rather take the punt on Asi think he has high upside.

He's never played on the edge in first grade and only twice in reserve grade. Looking at his lateral movement here you can see why. He's a middle defender:

With RCG and Matterson both playing 60, and Paulo playing 50, there aren't enough minutes left for Hopgood to play 80.

Bring back Jake.
I’d have Matto start on the edge and shift to the middle after 30 minutes to spell Hopgood. When Hopgood returns after 10 minutes in the second half he moves back to the edge or has a spell himself.

Matto will share the 9 & 10 work with Jnr and Reg. 53 mins each with the occasional big bopper, hopefully Emu supporting. Hopgood will play 80 I reckon. Dorey and Lane will be our edges. Cini and Penisini must be our centres. Our other wing is a huge issue. LumiLumi or Komalafe are the leading contenders I reckon unless we go to market.

I am not sure... both of the kicks Moses missed last night were from pretty wide out. There was a strongish right-to-left breeze that took the first one just left of the posts and he definitely adjusted for the second one, just a little too much as it missed just right of the upright.

Sure he might miss some clutch goals at times, but he is pretty damn good most of the time. In fact, only Cleary and Reynolds rank higher than Moses at kicking more goals than expected - https://www.statsinsider.com.au/nrl/true-kicker

We offered Waqa more. We stitched Semi up on 250k and said bad luck you signed rather then giving him a front loaded upgrade. Or when we did it was small amounts.

I think he leaves anyway but we may of squeezed 2 more yrs out of him
We were offering more by the time he left .... he got close to 1m to play french rugby - this was many years ago when the nrl cap was much less
