Actually he said that Hodgson wasnt in the best 17 players.
I asked him who he would replace him with and if you are replacing someone not in your best 17, then logically that person would be better than who you are replacing. His answer was he would give Yates a go at replacing Hodgson therefore the only assumption to make is that @Legal Eel thinks that Yates is better than Hodgson (and if he doesnt think this, why would you replace Hodgson with an inferior player?)

going by form, and his recent injury history, then it’s a fair assessment of Hodgson to be considered by some as not top 17 at our club. And if he is top 17 after his disastrous start to the year, then it’s an extremely poor squad that’s been assembled.

On current form, which hooker will Hodgson displace at rival clubs? He’d be hard pressed to be top 17 at any club imo.

To think we had money last year spare and we where penny pinching when it was out best chance of getting to a grand final in 12yrs. Trying to get a cheap deal and missed the boat.
i re read his comments and he hasn’t once said he’s better. He said he may handle it off the bench and there’s been inadequate planning since rheed left. If Hodgson was the plan, then the plan has failed miserably. Hard to argue with his comments. The club has f^*led up big time. Not sure how it’s defendable
Couldn’t have responded better myself

I have made it clear that Hodgson is a resounding failure and that our best bet at this juncture (die to our woeful planning and development) is to give Yates a relief role and hope he rises to the level - because we know Hodgson can’t.

I truly hope this gave you your spiteful little gotcha moment

Yates is unable to force his way into the 9 spot at NSW CUP level. He is keeping Moimesea company on the bench.

We will need to recruit a hooker or if we decided to use JA who in all fairness is a far better option then Yates then we should put him at hooker in NSW CUP for a month and see how he handles it.
Agree we desperately need and needed to recruit a proper hooker

whoomever is involved in recruitment failed on this task

I’d probably rather JA in the 17 to play 20 minutes at hooker and provide cover in the backline. His defence should be better in the middle, he’s a million times fitter and his service can’t be any worse than Hodgson’s. The added coverage is a bonus.

Next year will be interesting. My guess is they cleared the decks last year to ensure Moses and Brown re signed. Imagine the outcry if either went elsewhere.

All signings for this season have been budget buys as a result.

Let's hope that the recruitment team open the wallet for some quality for season '24.

Middles, hooker, centre, wing for first grade. Revamp of NSW Cup. Will need to check the squad succession thread to see how many of our top 30 are off contract.

I am not disagreeing that we should have planned some better risk mitigation for the age and injury history that Hodgson brought and that is totally on MON and BA and the recruitment and retention committee.

And yet you didn't answer the question.

Not at all.
I am just trying to understand the logic of a poster who is adamant that BA needs to replace Hodgson but doesnt offer a suitable alternative.
Mate, hodgson is just not playing anywhere near first grade level. He has had 1 or 2 moments in 8 games, otherwise has looked slow, has made a number of errors and his defence is one of the main reasons our middle has been a problem.
it’s time to experiment with either Hands as an 80 min player and bring an additional middle on to the bench or carry JA on the bench as a utility of sorts.
I didn’t want JA in the side last year because it made no sense. This year however, considering everything, he for me is a better option than Hodgson in first grade on current form.

It does appear we were a bit hamstrung until Moses signed. This sort of set us back for a season. We really need to go out and find some recruits for next year.

Alright ya merkins, who we looking at for next year?
We are doing a good job at keeping our targets out of the media.

Hopefully the club hasn't mentioned anyone yet as they are trying to get an early release for this year..

List of the off contract below.

I hope the club doesn't try to Moneyball it this year the recruitment last year has been pretty shit.

We need some players from successful clubs with the winning culture.

I wouldn't mind having a go at Khan-Periera. We sorely need some outside backs with a bit of toe... Not much to write home about in the list tbh....
