To be fair to Davey (attempted comedy aside above)

He plays on the edge, has great size, and is a halfway decent player as a backup. Not an 80 minute player, but gives us cover in the middle by allowing Matterson to go into the middles rotation.

Handy as a guy who came on late in his career, and can certainly fill an edge role as required. Bench guy. Better than Murchie or Jirah. Between Davey and Doorey we have right edge forward backed up behind Matterson.

I don't hate it.
If he is number 28 of our top 30, so be it. Hopefully 29 and 30 are legitimate starters. But you'd still be happy with a guy of Davey's ability as a player ranked 18-30 in your squad (ie not top 30, but can be solid and fill a role for a few games here and there)

Andrew Davey is actually a really nice signing for a couple of reasons.

Next year will be interesting. My guess is they cleared the decks last year to ensure Moses and Brown re signed. Imagine the outcry if either went elsewhere.

All signings for this season have been budget buys as a result.

Let's hope that the recruitment team open the wallet for some quality for season '24.

Middles, hooker, centre, wing for first grade. Revamp of NSW Cup. Will need to check the squad succession thread to see how many of our top 30 are off contract.

Then we failed miserably. As far as budget buys go I could have done laps over whoever is the talent identifying merkin at our club. Bar Hopgood and Doorey(under the right circumstances) every other player we have bought to the club this year is useless.

In fact as many here have been saying for a while now, our recruitment and retention is mind boggling to say the least. It all starts at the junior level and we have had crap coming for years being hyped as filet mignon.

But all this has been discussed ad nauseam. Nothing we say will ever change. The block heads in charge only know one thing. The boys need to chase the collision and if they do that we will be right. We're not far now, just have to focus and chase as a team and we will bring it. Parra ball.

You're right, I forgot Cartwright. So Cartwright, Doorey and Davey as backup edge guys. Who else is there? I would MUCH rather have Davey as a backup edge guy over Momoisea or Murchie. And they are your current options.
We have 3 top 30 spots to fill, I totally agree we need to get a serious player. I'd rather we get a starting C and a hooker.

Yeah awesome so he played an entire season is that the only requirement to get an Eels contract..

Murchie is another edge player and better than Davey..

I agree.
Everyone keeps quoting 3 spots vacant. If thats the case whats the go with Hands surely we wouldnt be allowed to play him every week based on an exemption. That is so weird

Regrettably Nrown had to go. Denials everywhere that there were no issues with BA but totally unconvincing. He was a great soldier for us. I hope he gets an opportunity at The Brave Roosters.
