Cameron McInnes would actually be a decent option as 9, would also allow us to use Hands as the 14 and he could still fill in the middle.

I think one of the Sharks fans on LU mentioned him the other day actually.

He is on way to much and as a middle he is rubbish. Couldn't crush a butterfly wing. As for playing 9, sure he may be still up to it, but then again he may not.

I've been watch Pheonix Crossland for the Knights this season and he is slowly progressing into a very handy Dummy Half. He is only 22 years old, 183cm, 86kgs and can tackle very well. He came through the juniors (captain of their SG Ball) as a half and can play anywhere in the backline from 7 to 1 as the Knights have been using him as a utility to fill different roles since he was graded in 2019.

I believe he is currently the best utility in the game and improving all the time. He is currently contracted to the Knights for 2024, so we can offer him a contract in November for 2025. But seeing that the Knight have Brailey to come back from injury next season, I think we can convince him that Parra is his best option for consistent NRL if he wants to make the 9 his own.

I can see him becoming quite a decent 9 once he trains solely for that role and isn't stuffed around with other positions all the time. He has had 45 NRL games and so there is plenty of improvement left in him.

The bonus of having him in the 17 also, is he is a genuine 80 mins player(currently averages 70+ mins as a DH and been making in excess of 40-50 tackles) if left out there and not small, but if anything did happen to our 6 or 7 he could slot in and take charge. He would not be overawed by the situation. We could also keep someone like Hands on the bench too if we so pleased as insurance and not need to keep Jake Arthur anymore, since Crossland can cover 1-7 and 9.

This then also frees us up in recruitment and retention to be able to cut most if not all the dead wood that we want including JA and focus on bringing in only players that we are in desperate need of like outside backs and props. We would still have two NRL quality DH's in Crossland and Hands, but in that a utility that can play anywhere in the backline if needed. Not many squads have more then two NRL DH's in their squad, so we are covered there while also waiting for Matthew Arthur to develop or not or whoever else we may bring along in years to come and we are also covered in the backs by Crossland.

Pretty good situation to be in that will not break the bank at all and very good quality. He does his job more then adequately and I think we can get him for no more then what that geriatric is on now. I don't think the Knights would match that since they have good money tide up in Brailey. But long term I think this guy will turn out to be a quality DH without all the injuries (touch wood) that the smaller DH Brailey is having.

Now unless someone else can come up with a better solution that is what I would be doing, But what I suspect Potato Head and Co to do is maintain the status quo at DH and focus on recruiting more park level back rowers and center/wingers.

we could do with a bit of pre game readiness instead of posing for the cameras and making sure their hair isn't out of place

I believe Michael Cheika would be a great replacement for Potato Head and probably the best we could currently make. Has anyone heard him speak on the way he thinks of the game? Very impressive and not one dimensional. He would also get along very well with our spine players especially Moses, so there wouldn't be any friction or animosity there. He is a players type of coach and I think the type on coach that would get the best out of all the players abilities. I would offer him the job yesterday.

Ah if only. Dreaming is free I suppose.

Yeah I don’t get Chippy’s fascination with McInnes. He’d only be a marginal improvement on Hodgson, and skill wise probably worse off. In the role Sharks have him, he’s handy but I wouldn’t have him as first choice hooker.
Crossland I like. It’s a gamble but as long as it’s not like the start of this year and we only have the one option then it’s mitigated. Plus he’s adaptable enough that if a better hooker option (dare I say young Arthur) appears/is required, he can move back to a utility role.

I don't understand how people bitch and moan about our recruitment and retention committee letting our young juniors go to other clubs and then suggest we try and get a local junior to leave the club they have spent years at?

Which junior are talking about? (Last sentence)
Crossland... see about 4 posts above.
Actually about 6 or 7 posts above... the one from Ram where he suggests we chase Crossland (former Knights SG Ball captain) hard which of course Potato Head and Co won't bother doing.

You lost me at Phoenix Crossland.

The bloke is a park footballer.

We already have enough of them.

Wouldn’t class Crossland as the best utility in the game and he wouldn’t be on my list

but we do need a 14 to work in tandem with hands after we finally rid ourselves of Hodgson

Manipulative headlines. Anyway, Weedler reckons he knows what is going on. Could be true, or not.

"St George Illawarra will cut ties with coach Anthony Griffin on Tuesday, reports Nine's Danny Weidler."

You lost me at Phoenix Crossland.

The bloke is a park footballer.

We already have enough of them.

I suggest you watch him a little more carefully. He isn't Harry Grant, but he is quality and only getting better. He just needs more game time at 9 and a better team around him which at full strength and if we are wise in our recruitment we will have. Especially if we could get a better coach in to to really educate our players like Cheika that I have already suggested. That coach is a real teacher type.

I believe a lot of people didn't see JMK as much of a DH either in a sh*ty Dogs team but Bennett did (and so did I)and look at him now. I feel when people watch teams play and their players, they don't see the way a player carries himself or the good things that they can do, but only focus on the negative things that a player does or is exposed to in a crap team without assessing why they happened.

If you watch him carefully, you will see that it is the players and in the Knights case, the big boppers that have let the team down in particular. He then has to play a desperate catchup role and can't focus on his actual game properly.

Young players can't develop in crappy teams. They are all at sea and just worrying about way to many things that are going wrong to be able to focus on the things that they do well and then to build on them. Only when they are in well run and quality rosters can you see them perform consistently and improve week to week. He has been(like JMK) a victim of playing in a woeful team for way to long, but the quality is still there if you watch him carefully. He is not a runner yet, but does everything else well. But I feel if he was in a better squad, his running game would developed too. Remember he is still only new to this position and already showing signs that he could be very handy indeed and eventually add to his game immensely.

But like I said he is not Grant level obviously, but he definitely is better then anyone we currently have and considering that there is no other better option out there, he offers us some much flexibility too for what should be a very low price.

Or like I said, what other option would you suggestion is better currently? I would like to hear your thoughts.
