I suggest you watch him a little more carefully. He isn't Harry Grant, but he is quality and only getting better. He just needs more game time at 9 and a better team around him which at full strength and if we are wise in our recruitment we will have. Especially if we could get a better coach in to to really educate our players like Cheika that I have already suggested. That coach is a real teacher type.

I believe a lot of people didn't see JMK as much of a DH either in a sh*ty Dogs team but Bennett did (and so did I)and look at him now. I feel when people watch teams play and their players, they don't see the way a player carries himself or the good things that they can do, but only focus on the negative things that a player does or is exposed to in a crap team without assessing why they happened.

If you watch him carefully, you will see that it is the players and in the Knights case, the big boppers that have let the team down in particular. He then has to play a desperate catchup role and can't focus on his actual game properly.

Young players can't develop in crappy teams. They are all at sea and just worrying about way to many things that are going wrong to be able to focus on the things that they do well and then to build on them. Only when they are in well run and quality rosters can you see them perform consistently and improve week to week. He has been(like JMK) a victim of playing in a woeful team for way to long, but the quality is still there if you watch him carefully. He is not a runner yet, but does everything else well. But I feel if he was in a better squad, his running game would developed too. Remember he is still only new to this position and already showing signs that he could be very handy indeed and eventually add to his game immensely.

But like I said he is not Grant level obviously, but he definitely is better then anyone we currently have and considering that there is no other better option out there, he offers us some much flexibility too for what should be a very low price.

Or like I said, what other option would you suggestion is better currently? I would like to hear your thoughts.

I don't understand how people bitch and moan about our recruitment and retention committee letting our young juniors go to other clubs and then suggest we try and get a local junior to leave the club they have spent years at?
I don’t see the issue. Crossland would affect the following players:
Hodgson - not a junior, near retirement
Hands - not a junior but have invested significant development
Rein - not a junior, near retirement
Jrthur - only affected by Crossland’s versatility
Yates - Hands but further from NRL
Jacob Davis - haven’t watch too much of him in Flegg but he didn’t stand out and there hasn’t been much said by usual commentators. Was there another Flegg hooker?
Mrthur - 2 years away at absolute best but likely twice as long, if ever.

So an external recruitment like this only becomes a consideration for our current junior development after a couple of seasons (when those juniors would be highly unlikely of contributing to NRL side) so if external player’s (doesn’t even need to be external - see Moses/Sanders) contract is suitable then rather than it blocking development pathways, it just becomes a decision point of is the junior good enough/better cap fit to take the NRL players spot.

Wouldn’t class Crossland as the best utility in the game and he wouldn’t be on my list

but we do need a 14 to work in tandem with hands after we finally rid ourselves of Hodgson

When I say utility, I am not talking about Manu quality established NRL superstar level players.

He is currently the best 14 I can think of, but will only get better in the right atmosphere and quality squad where he can become a permanent 9 if he were to be given the right opportunity. If he is bounced around from position to position in a yoyo roster, he may never develop into what he could at the right club. We see this all the time. All I am saying is we need a DH and the options are very scarce. He is someone I would take an educated gamble on. He isn't all that expensive and the up side is considerable. The downside is minimal since we already know he is better then anyone we currently have.

I don't see where the problem is. I only see a positive and improvement of our squad. I would also make it totally clear to Hodgson that we will not be needing him next season and that he will be playing NSW cup all season next year if he chose to exercise his option and he is free to look for other options. Same with Raine if he is still on our books for next season too. I would also offer up JA to the Knights as a players swap if that is a way we could get Crossland over the line for next year without any animosity.

All valid comments, however you missed the point of my post which was to call out the hypocrisy we see on here rather than suggest Crossland wouldn't be a suitable target.

You mentioned Harry Grant in this post and then ignored that he played his first full season in first grade for the Tigers ffs.

Mate, Harry is an absolute superstar. If you think we will just grab that calibre of player off of a club, then have at it champ. You'll make Bennett look like a chump in recruitment. I mean even he hasn't nailed a playmaking star like him.

Grant would shine in any team good or bad because he is exceptional. There are only a handful or two of those types of players and playmakers in the NRL. We need to find a player that is somewhere in between above average to very good. At the moment Crossland is in the good category. He has the potential to get into the very good category.

We at the moment have at best two DH's that are in the below average to average category and one of those may or may not get into the good category while the other sinks into the stinker and oblivion category.

WTF are you on about? Most teams are good enough to make the eight. Not all of them can though, so the ones who do will be the ones with the most luck.

Or do you think the coach is responsible for our top eight finishes in recent years?
I reckon they should get rid of coaches altogether. Just use the wheel from Pluck a duck and pick the premiers accordingly.

It’s just about luck.

Well we will find out this Friday night about him i suppose.

Doesn't matter how he plays against us. Everyone will play well against us at present with the forwards roster we currently have.

Expect 30-40+ score line against us this week.

And the chirping some of you are currently doing on Greig. He will be exposed for the bog average 4th or 5th string bopper that he is.
