They only serve Beer and wine at the Gabba these days at the Cricket. Not sure at the SCG but your story just show the hypocrisy. You can get smashed on full strength scotch as long as they sponsor the match but you can only drink mid strength dish water.
My mates and I used to attend the first day of the Sydney test for a decade or so at least.
Then, about 8 years ago, they brought in the mid strength shit, because of beach balls and beer cup snakes.
Seriously, that was the only misbehaviour that ever went down, even at Ashes tests, yet, that was too much fun for the fun police.
We stopped going.
We weren't there to get hammered, but we weren't there to pay over inflated prices for substandard shit beer either, so the 10/12 of us thought f**k them. We'll watch the game in a pub.
Since then, we have continued our tradition of going to the first day, but we just don't part with our money to either Cricket Australia or the SCG Trust or whoever was involved in that decision.
We part with our $ to the tourism industry in a few pubs in The Rocks and spend an enjoyable day having a few full flavoured full strength beers in the Rocks area at pubs and watching the cricket there.
I feel your pain parra pete.
It's been happening for over a decade in Sydney.
It sucks.
