Despite Wests Tigers collecting the wooden spoon, Ofahengaue finished ninth in the competition for most tackles made,[51] second in decoy runs, and tenth in runs made.[52] He came 4th in the NRL's Hard Work Index, where he was described as having, "arguably the best year of his career".[53] One of two players to appear in every game of Wests Tigers season, he was awarded the Kelly-Barnes Medal as the best player for the club.[54]

At season's end, Ofahengaue signed a contract extension to remain at the club until the end of 2025. Incoming coach Tim Sheens said, "We’ve brought several younger players through the pathways this season, with more to come, and Joe has played a role in their development. He’s a player they look up to and are comfortable going to for advice. Like the younger guys, he too is always challenging himself to improve, and that’s exciting for all of us."

They'd definitely be chipping in.

Not sure on that. Like I said i dont think hes a guy we're shopping around (we resigned him 4 months ago), its more so Parra want him. For instance we let go Zane Musgrove and Jacob Liddle to Saints. Saints paid full freight for Musgrove yet we paid half of Liddles salary. Musgrove was similar to Joffa in that we were happy to keep him but Saints wanted him, whereas we told Liddle he was free to leave.

The 2015 NRL grand final player was at Brisbane's Treasury Casino playing a game of poker at 5:45am on April 8 when he slipped an extra $100 chip under his initial $15 chip after the bet was already won.
Haha could have been the thoroughbreds at the broncos giving him an under the table payment except it didn't go under the table.

He’s bog f**king average, he’d fit right in.

We are know scouring the Tigers dregs lol. Guys on 500k you would hope the Tigers are chipping on 200k minimum.
I’d say he’s more rocks and diamonds than average. At his best, he’s probably better than Hopgood all around but he’s prone to the odd act of stupidity

I disagree. He is at least twice the player Davey is.
He’s also on 3 times the money, he’s a dumb and lazy player. He’ll fit in at what Bea is building here. The idea is to recruit to improve the side where does Joe O improve the side???

We’ve all done that. At least it wasn’t a bet he’d already lost

Congratulations on not watching any tigers games for the past 2 and a half years, not that I blame you. Joffa has been one of the handful of guys thats been above first grade standard the last couple of years. He has been consistently good and deservingly won an Origin jersey during that time. From what Ive been told he's the ultimate professional off the field and a leader of a lot of the good young forwards. I'd be dissapointed if he left however can understand it as our prop rotation are all very simialr players. If he left he walks into your 17 and I guarentee you love him by the end of the year.

I don't dislike him, but I don't think he has been to consistent throughout his career. How much of that is it his fault and how much of that is his own we will never know.

My take is he could turn out to be a good to very good player IF we used him better then the Tigers have of late.

He is a handy defender with a 92.9% efficiency rate. His issues lie in the attacking side of things with an average of just 95m but with the overwhelming amount coming from hit ups which can be very deceiving. If we can get him making the right type of metre yardage as a quality impact player then he could turnout to be quite a handy signing.

Well I am much happier with him then say Davey that is for sure. He has decent size as well. But I still think we have to many bog average signings to be able to sign a real quality Bopper or outside back. I hope we take a razer to the joint in the offseason to address the situation. Then guys like Ofahengaue would be well worth their place in the squad.

Our current middles are both our biggest strength and our biggest weakness

Look hes not a Junior Paulo level prop but I'd say he's in a group above a decent first grader but just below rep level. He does the job, limited mistakes and does have an offload, short passing game. You can tell he wants to win, I notice little things like hes the first in there celebrating tries, slapping guys on the backs for forcing mistakes etc. He's not a guy the club would be shopping around but because our squad is a bit middle forward heavy I'd say they'd be open to letting him or Alex Twal go if its a deal in the clubs favour. I honestly reckon hes the type of player that if you sign him in 4 weeks youll be saying 'good signing'

Depending on price you would be right, but given a choice I'd opt for Alex Twal if the money is comparable every time.

Come home Alex, we miss you.

Joe's a winner mate

He has already won 2 spoons one at Brisbane in 2020 and then Tigers last year.

He has that winning mentality the club is desperately missing.

If this is what he is currently on and we are paying full freight, he isn't worth it. I mean the Roosters just paid $525K for Spencer Leniu who is twice the player Ofahengaue is. A player like Ofahengaue should never be on our books for more then $400K.

Wests Tigers

  1. Luke Brooks - $850,000
  2. Moses Mbye - $815,000
  3. Russell Packer - $750,000
  4. Joe Ofahengaue - $650,000
  5. Adam Doueihi - $625,000
  6. Joseph Leilua - $550,000
  7. David Nofoaluma - $525,000
In contrast Daniel Saifiti isn't even in the Knights highest paid players list. If that is the case we should be signing him for that sort of money.

Newcastle Knights

  1. Kalyn Ponga - $1 million
  2. Mitchell Pearce - $900,000
  3. David Klemmer - $800,000
  4. Tyson Frizell - $700,000

Some of those players on that list have made out like bandits.

Thats crazy especially that the Knights are paying Klemmer 800k to play for the tigers!

I think Saifiti is on 700k
