Well I would argue a teams ability is subjective and there’s no one ultimate methodology to demonstrate it. All you can do is put forward your best arguments. There is no objective comparison. Your number of origin players argument is one of many possible ones but it’s by no means a slam dunk.

We could keep our fringe players because we couldn’t afford them anymore due to having to spend big money on other good players. That’s a sign of having a good team.
Right, but a good team is one that fits more than their share of talent under the cap. That was us last year, and when those merkins came off contract we could no longer keep them on unders. We will need to build that excess talent again (hence the term "rebuild"). Hopefully next time we will be able to build an even stronger squad, like the clubs that invest so heavily in junior recruitment/retention (Panthers/Storm/Roosters/Broncos).
Well if you’re going to use luck as such a prominent factor in where a team finishes then how do do know Penrith just haven’t been the luckiest team the last two seasons? How do you differentiate between an inherent trait and luck?
You look at larger samples of data. Penrith's record (not including finals) over the past three seasons was 59/68 (87% win rate). Ours was 46/68 (68%) - pretty good, but not even close to Penrith's dominance.
It’s a huge cop out to say if we miss the 8 this season it’s primarily due to bad luck.
What else would it be from? Arthur suddenly can't coach? Maybe he was lucky the past few years and now he's not? Far more likely is that our squad just isn't as good this year, and it can't withstand so many games unavailable from its top half dozen players. That's nobody's fault.

I'd take Bradman best. The guy is 21 in a shit side. We can fix his defense. On a 2.5yr contract he'd be fine.
Unless we have a boom centre ready to break into NRL soon which I don't think we do? How old is Talagi and the Younger Pensini? I assumed they are more like 2026?
If 2025 then maybe we stay patient and wait.

Watch his kicking game. He can't kick the ball that far or that high compared to Moses. Rest of his games excellent and better bar defense.

agreed its not, but that's not the point here

Moses's kicking is not worth $1.25 million for mine and if that sort of money gets us Hunt (or equivalent) plus another $450K player, that is better value for money as Moses is costing us another player and for mine, he is just not that good

for $1.25M he should be our xfactor and winning us a lot more games

I think Hunt is also clutch, which I wouldn't call Moses.
Uummm….

I think Hunts one of the best in game but not “clutch”

Ben Hunt has kicked 1 FG in 300 games.

As a halfback that is incredible.

Ironically his only FG he kicked it in the first half of a match and they lost.

He is rep quality player but not an elite player who nails key moments.

He isnt clutch did have the big play in Origin last year though.

He has had a few chances this year to win games for the Dragons but has messed it up.

According to DW Bradman Best and Daniel Saifiti are being put up for sale. We MUST buy Best. We've been a centre short for a long time. I didn't even rate Opacic as a solid first grade centre. Please use your brain BA and don't be stubborn on this one

Mate if we can only have one of them hands down it should be D. Saifiti. Even in a bad season the guys defensive stats are better then any props figures we have and his offensive stats are just a little less then our best in RCG. He is coming into his best years as a prop and we desperately need a quality third bopper.

If we got Saifiti, Hame Sele and kept Greig, having these 5 boppers

1. RCG
2, Junior
3. Saifiti
4. Sele
5. Greig

would transfer our roster from a marshmallow middle to a rock solid bulldozing chase the collision powerhouse. Who we added to the outside backs wouldn't be so important. But speed like Averillo would thrive behind a pack like that. I would also ask for Phoenix Crossland and then barring injuries, we have a premiership quality roster for 2024.

I believe we could make all these signings if we were ruthless with our cutting of all the dead wood lying around the place. But of course none of this will happen. We will keep the likes of Davey and ignore what actually will make a difference.

1. Gutho
2. Sivo
3. Penisini
4. Averillo
5. Russell
6. Brown
7. Moses
8. RCG
9. Crossland
10. Junior
11. Matterson
12. Lane
13. Hopgood

14. Hands
15. Saifiti
16. Sele
17. Greig
