Papa defends on an edge, totally different argument so we are happy to pay 600k for a bloke who is solid defensively?? Him being good defensively hasn’t seemed to do much for he Tigers the last few years. Just another nothing buy from a nothing coach at a club going nowhere fast.
I don’t think we paid full freight.

Incorrect, you merkins need to keep up. The olden days lock (2000 - 2020) played like a prop. The modern day lock plays like a big 5/8 (Yeo, Radley, Murray, etc). I think (and hope) that this is what is going on at the Tigers. We have been trying to get him to play this game and he doesnt have it in him. He tries a couple of passes but not great and Sheens has had to change to other forwards (Klemmer and Bateman) to ball play. We have Matamua coming through who does play the modern 13 game but still young and some gun young backrowers coming through and Im hoping that the reason that either Offa asked to go and the club let him is that Joffa is flat out getting a start in this pack and the young kids coming through.

Ive posted plenty of positive posts here about Joffa and you ARE getting a good 'un, but he is 30 and I'm not seeing improvement in him and think his best days are behind him.

(see how I seamlessly shift once it becomes likely he is leaving)
He is 27.

You have no clue what we have offered him, or what the tigers are willing to pay.

Unless we can piss off Davey and he takes Davey kind of money, we shouldn't be wasting valuable cap space and money on these types of players. If he comes in we need to cut at least 2 other crap signings to say we have improved our roster player and cap wise.

Does anyone think that that is going to happen? Just adding more average players who are just a little better then the ones that you already have do very little to strengthening your roster. Remember this is a player who was shunted back to reserve grade earlier in the year in a Tigers outfit that couldn't win a game.

2022 he played 6 of Tigers last 8 games starting at prop ( 2 at Lock )

Round 18 vs Penrith 172m
Round 19 Vs Cowboys 151m
Round 20 vs Donkeys 127m
Round 21 vs Knights 164m
Round 24 vs Dragons 125m
Round 25 vs Canberra 73m

Round 22 and 23 he started at lock , vs Sharks, 160m, vs Roosters 80m,

That's fairly decent numbers for a guy who is "not a prop"
This should end it. That’s great numbers.

As Ive said elsewhere in this thread, he was our best forward by a long stretch last year in a badly bashed pack. He still only averaged 95m a game so you have done some nice cherry picking there though. you also didnt mention that he played all 24 games last year and only played prop 6 times and that was because Twal was out. Even when Twal was out Joffa played lock 4 times and Fonua Pole and the great Zane Musgrave was picked there ahead of him. He simply isnt a prop. Can do a job there but he isnt a prop.

This year, when we have a proper pack, he hasnt been considered as a prop....because he is not a prop.

+1. It's about time we replaced Marata / Oregan and now Emu has stepped up, we'll have some steel in the middle (when Reg gets back that is).

We still need a centre and the kids like Blaze etc are year or two away. It's a shame Cini hasn't sorted his D out.

blaze is a 5/8 lock who has been playing centres? if so hows he been playing ?

You'll love Arthur's comments about recruitment in the latest presser: https://www.parraeels.com.au/news/2023/05/17/coachs-media-round-12/

Since Potato Head admits to making a lot of mistakes when he started his NRL coaching and you are the ultimate defender of all things that the coach does, it begs the question, how many times where YOU defending him when he was coc*king up royally back then and willing to throw endless stats and contorted mental gymnastics at us defending them?

Also just because HE thinks that he has sorted his mistakes out doesn't mean he has, so again one would logically say that you are defending at times the indefensible. I wonder if he will admit in some way later down the line or leading into next season that they got the 2023 recruitment wrong and needed to bolster it for 2023 and beyond.

But lets just keep filling up those vacant spots with the right types of players that he is suggesting here. He knows what he is doing. After all he is the head coach and we are just the dumb arse fans.

I don't see how that's cherry picking, it's the full sample of the games he started at prop last year.

I dunno, but listing his games at lock in response to questions around his ability at prop seems a tad pointless?

For the record he's started at Prop around 25 Games, and Lock around 40, the rest are off the bench.

He’s also on about their money combined, we have chased him so I doubt the Tigers are tipping in anything. 600k “BuT wE dOnT pAy OvErS”
We are chasing a lot of players. It doesn’t mean we want to pay overs for any of them. And who said he’s on $600k ffs?

Yes but he’s not a prop, he barely cracks 100m a game. He’s not a metre eater and it’s not like he has great balls skills I’m not sure he improves the side in any shape way or form. He’s another decent first grader that we are paying a premium for. Yet we were happy to lowball Papaliiiii who is a game breaker. Another nothing signing for a club that’s going nowhere.
Unlike Papali’i, Ofahengaue is a good defender. He is a toiler with some size, which is just what we need.

He is playing better than he did with you guys in 2022, worse than 2021. The actual answer to your question is that Papali'i in 2021 had a good halfback who could get him the ball as he was hitting a hole. At the Tigers at the moment he is getting early ball and having to a lot more grunt work.

Last two games he was really good and in every game there has been no shortage of effort. Your question implies he is a player that would have a sulk and not play to his best and I just dont see that in Ice. Do you? If so why would you want him back?
I don’t want him back. We have enough good attacking forwards. We need defenders.
