I think given old mate 5150 is so tight with the Tigers board, just say yep definitely got to have 30 players all contracted up by August
Mate, its got nothing to do with me or the Tigers, its the NRL rules. Not sure why its a mystery.

Yes you do. "At least 24 Top 30 players must be contracted by the first Monday in November November and 29 Top 30 players by the first Monday in March and 30 Top 30 players by the first Monday in August."

"Contracted by", does not mean still under contract, or under contract at that time.

If you stop for a second and think about it, the rules have to allow for all kinds of shit that may or may not happen.

This kind of thing ( mid season transfer ) would be one of those things.

I mean assume for a moment a club wants out of a player, for whatever reason, and the club that then contracts him does so at unders, with the original club making a payout within that salary cap year, not leaving enough room in the cap to replace that player, even at minimum for the remainder of the season.

Unlikely as it may be, there has to be a mechanism for that to be able to happen.

Didnt the tigers loan out some players last year from August 1.

Nofoluma went down to Melbourne and they crumbled in last 6 weeks.

Thats correct. Noffa went down to the Storm, in part because they had to fill their roster for August deadline.

"Regardless, the Storm desperately needed to sign someone before the August 1 transfer deadline, with coach Craig Bellamy revealing just a fortnight ago that they had not only a spot left, but salary cap space to get a deal over the line."

Or they desperately needed a player due to injury crisis and needed to sign before the deadline.................

So who took Noffa place in the Tigers Top 30?

Do you reckon he is worth $275k now?
The point is whatever he left for is irrelevant. He wouldn’t be earning that much now.
Isnt that the way you develop young players?
Developing them and fitting them under the cap are two different problems. Consider two players, internally developed juniors or otherwise:

Player 1: worth $600k and being paid $600k

Player 2: worth $400k and being paid $200k

There’s obviously no argument as to which player is better, but that’s as far as most fans are even capable of thinking. From a value perspective that second player is far superior to have in your top 30. Dopes will say “But you need quality players in your team!” and it’s true, but every club has multiple $600k players in their roster, even the club that runs last. What they are less likely to have is multiple players on $200k (for example) playing at $400k standard. The more of these you have the more $600k+ players you can fit under your salary cap.

And yet Stefano is at the Tigers and you guys just took Joffa from us. I know who I'd rather in the middle.
But neither club just has that one player in the middle. We have RCG, Paulo, Matterson, Ofahengaue, Hopgood, Greig, etc and you have Klemmer, Utoikamanu, Pole, etc. They are all getting paid whatever they are getting paid, and that affects how much both clubs are able to pay in other areas of their rosters.

I think it refers to more than that?

I mean just on pure logic "avoid contact" doesn't really work for defence?
You can not chase the collision without avoiding contact. You just tackle whoever runs at you, without making an effort to help your mates. You see it all the time, especially when merkins get tired.

No mystery. You’ve read and understood it completely correct. You make sure your Tiger board mates know they definitely need 30 players in your squad by August. Also use up all of that cap space. Don’t want the NRL to come calling

What he left for is the most relevant point. Thats what determines if he is a Tiger or an Eel (mostly).

To get young players that will ultimately be worth north of $600K, you have to get them at all first, for $275K.

YOu know that regarless of roster numbers each club has to spend 95% of the cap?
