Murchie for mine was mishandled, and another example of just buying a player to like-for-like replace someone you've just lost, without really taking into account the skills that Murchie had.
For mine, he seems a one dimensional hole running edge forward. I'd say he is comparable to a Briton Nikura type (nowhere near as good obviously). But, we wanted him to be a middle forward battering ram. That's good...but buy some other f**ker instead! The stupid thing is, we went out and bought Andrew Davey, a one dimensional hole running edge forward, to play the role of, a one dimensional hole running edge forward, in the middle of the season. Surely we already had someone who could play that role in Murchie.
The purchase of Josh Hodgson was the same, it was clear from the outset we wanted him to be a 50 tackle 80 minute dummy half who just passed from dummy half and not move. Well, if you want someone to do that, you don't go out and impulse buy Josh f**ken Hodgson! I suspect we're now virtually committed to Lussick as the 9 for two seasons, and we've instructed him the job is his, but he needs to improve his defence. I think we'd be smart by playing Hands as a 14 to be honest.
In fact, a bench of Hands, Junior (Greig to start), Matterson, and JOffa should be pretty handy next year.
