Well, the committee works on recruitment says let’s have a couple of meetings to see if we should approach his manager, then after that come back with a salary figure and we can discuss that after agreeing to a time for the meeting.Basically seems the recruitment team is so busy organising meetings and discussions they probably don’t have time for actual recruiting.
it sounds like they are public serpents or council members

You have to sign dross to fill your 28 man squad. You can’t refuse to sign backups just because you don’t want to spend the money. You have to sign them, then you have to hope you never need them. It’s like insurance.
To an extent that is true, although many will, say, rather than signing other clubs cast offs, why not prioritise your own 20/21 year old juniors as they may make the jump with experience and provide the depth anyway. A lot of clubs like the Broncos are pushing younger players into their QLD Cup teams to do just that.

How about giving an 18-19 year old in the juniors a chance.

I would rather get beat every now and then with a young local kid gaining experience filling in from time to time then having pure dross like Harper blocking his pathway.

Stick it plod dribbler. Again you miss the point.

Sign the best available that you need to fill weak positions, then and only then fill the remaining spots with minimum wage juniors if need be or dross NRL players to make up the required numbers. But until you fill the quality positions first you won't know exactly how much is left for the lesser player spots/positions. Meaning if you have enough left over AFTER you have signed, in our current case, the quality centre and or winger we need, you can either sign a quality junior on say around $200K-$300K or if not just minimum wage players which I think is now $150K.

But don't spend those extra dollars just yet and up front until you know what you actually have left once the weak spots have been filled with quality like for example JAC who may now be available. It's not intergalactic space mining ffs!

If there's more demand for the 20 year old then they will cost more than Harper, reducing the amount you can spend on your top 17.

Here's the backs in Brisbane's top 30:

Arthars (25)
Cobbo (21)
Farnworth (24)
Hoeter (29)
Mariner (21)
Oates (29)
Pereira (30)
Staggs (25)

How can you argue Hoeter and Pereira are any better than Morgan Harper?

Because there's a good chance they'll make Harper look like Michael Jennings. Harper defended at 85% this year, whereas someone like Richard Penisini could get rolled for 70% or less. There's value in those extra pre-seasons and cumulative years of full time conditioning. As shit as you think a 25 year old with 50+ NRL games might be, there are plenty worse players you will just never see in the NRL. This is why the Harpers, Hoeters and Pereiras of the NRL have top 30 contracts.

We already have our top 17 outside backs. They are locked in:

Sivo
Simonsson
Penisini
Russell

Not the best backline, but don't forget two of those merkins only turned 21 this year. They will be better after another preseason. And the money we're saving on these four we are spending on quality forwards and spine.

Haha please Michael Jennings was a World Class Centre in his prime.

Harper wouldn't even look like Ryan Morgan with a spud junior around him.

I'm sure it'll take 4 meetings and a signature from our chairman to instigate an approach to his manager.

As someone mentioned on the other site South are also interested in JAC. If they grab him as the other poster suggested we should go for Isaah Tass. Good player and a specialist left centre.
