Top 30 quality just means good enough for the top 30. And while there are players on top 30 contracts who aren't good enough, some clubs have more than 30 players of top 30 quality. If sufficient merkins have overtaken Momoisea for him to be outside the top 30 then we have become such a club. This would be validation of our investment in junior 'development'.

But Momoisea has 60+ reserve grade games under his belt along with 11 games in first grade. For a bloke who's just turned 25 that is absolutely the profile of a top 30 player. Moretti and Mataele also fit the profile. You're talking as though there's room in the top 30 for every merkin bar Momoisea. His utility value alone demands a place. Besides his seven games off the bench he played prop/lock and wing, as well as three positions in between.
Top 30 quality means he is of sufficient quality to be in the top 30. If there are 30 other players whom are better than him, then he is not top 30 quality.
His utility value is the only reason there’s a possibility of him getting back in based on his output this year. But that will only take him so far as we saw with Waqa. There are certain attributes/skills that players must reach a minimum standard and the key one Momoisea missed was at best fitness, at worst effort.
There’s room in the top 30 for 30 players funnily enough. And don’t go confusing quality for contracted. Momoisea is fortunate to have a multi year contract but if his output next year is a repeat of this year, I’ll bet the house that it’s his last NRL contract

Why else do merkins get contracts? Pro sport is the ultimate meritocracy.
They get contracts at a set point in time under the assumption/hope of quality over the life of the contract. It’s not a guarantee they’ll remain quality, especially not at a separate point in time.

I’m sure there’s an assumption that form can fluctuate. For younger players there will be an assumption that ability will increase while for older players there will be an assumed decline. The merkins offering contracts have all the same information we do, and more.

A pretty negative article or very truthful depends on your point of view. Link @Gronk

Well…
It was a sixteen team completion for most of those years. So an average coach would be expected to only make the finals 8 times, win one grand final, lose one grand final and win a wooden spoon in a span of 16 years. And win 50% of their games.
After 10 years, Brad Arthur has six finals appearances, a spoon and lost a grand final. He’s doing okay, particularly considering that he took over an absolute shambles of a team.
Stuart is 5/10 for finals and has reached the grand final once. No spoons. He’s won more than 50% of the games. He’s doing an average job. Certainly not terrible.
Both of these clubs were basket cases when the coaches took over. Neither of them have ever had a roster which could be said to be expected to win a premiership. Neither of them could be considered failures unless the only criteria that success is judged by is winning a premiership, which is absurd because it means that 15 (now 16) clubs have a bad season every year.

Interesting day...another RBA rate rise and Sydney FC have tapped Corica. A club that can read the room. In summary they have decided to move in a new direction...
Their is no harm in saying its best we sever ties when it's not working.
I will say I don't like to see any coach sacked but when results aren't there someone has to pull the trigger.
I'm not suggesting or saying to sack BA now but if we don't go deep into the semis or win it next year then it's time to go...

Yeah and usually there’s an assumption that a lower tier player may drop out of top 30 quality but apparently that’s not an assumption of everyone’s.

I’d be chasing Wayne Bennett and wouldn’t be f**king around with any other alternative. If he snags us our 5th premiership and breaks the drought he will be remembered in the same way as The great, Jack Gibson.
