Anyone know if Charlie Staines has been re-signed by the Tigers? Can’t see why you wouldn’t take him on a small deal. He’s a GF winner FFS. Isn’t that right @Poupou Escobar ?
Not re-signed by Tigers, nor has he been signed by anyone else. Weird IMO, I would like the Tigers to re-sign him and rate him higher than many of our backs, in particular Nofa. Weird that he hasnt gone anywhere. I think there must be more to the story and wonder if his injury last year isnt worse than reported or have some lingering issues.

Harper was one of the quickest at Manly so has some pace. Cant say Ill be overjoyed if its him and Supes fighting for the centre spot.

I like signing players that are fighting for their footballing future.

Incentive/motivation/drive increases and you usually get plenty of bang for buck.

Plus he got rid of that stupid soulglo porn style haircut. Probably needs to lose the mo too. Reminds me of that Mediterranean Descendant brother in-law from Kingswood Country.

No problem with signing him as depth but like most on here Im hoping for at least one quality back signing.

I get the feeling there’s more to the staines no contract than meets the eye, he was looked at by us this year and for medical reasons we didn’t pursue him.

I fail to see how this disproves my point that players can play well one year then worse the next.
I'm not attempting to disprove that point. I'm saying it's irrelevant. The fact of players being able to play worse from one year to the next shouldn't (and doesn't) stop clubs signing them.
But they still should consider it.
I'm sure they do. It is considered less likely (not impossible) for younger players and more likely (not inevitable) for older players. But they still need to sign players, any of which might play worse the following year, or the year after that.
I reckon he only is at the moment through default. He didn’t end 2023 in it.
Which 30 players do you think finished ahead of him?
Well it was on national TV for all to see him puffing after two seconds on the field.
I don't remember it.
Umm… probably the bloke I’ve said a million times so far Lukah Morretisea.
He appeared in 11 NRL games, including the final eight, while half a dozen other top 30 forwards played reserve grade. Hardly an example of a minimum salary player. It's just lucky that we got him so cheap, though understandable given his poor form in reserve grade prior to this year.
And yet he showed more in that one game than Moimosea did in all his. I don’t think he was outplayed in reserves either. I’d have him where Moimosea was at the start of the year in terms of ranking for similar reasons Moimosea got the place originally.
His annual stats are at the bottom, under 'Career by Season': https://www.nswrl.com.au/players/nsw-cup/parramatta-eels-nsw-cup/luca-moretti/

Moretti was poor. That's why he's on the deal he's on. Momoisea was pretty good (though plagued by injury) which is why he's in the top 30: https://www.nswrl.com.au/players/nsw-cup/parramatta-eels-nsw-cup/jirah-momoisea/
This was due to as you said unavailability but also salary cap rules. And I already said at the start of season, he was top 30 quality. He has physical attributes that are worth giving him a go. Unfortunately it became apparent he has other attributes which affected his performance. And those weaknesses meant Davey was brought in, Hands was brought in and Moretti proved himself which pushed Moimosea further and further down the list.
Well we'll see how another pre-season treats him. Form isn't static. Momoisea and Moretti are proof of that. And recency bias is a killer.

I think you’ll find the irrelevancy in this discussion about player performance is them signing with clubs, other than that being further evidence one way or another of their performance. Do you reckon will see a Moimosea extension in the future based on how he’s gone so far?

This could easily be gotcha moment. Players getting better/worse was the crux of my argument. Whether they signed or not, see above for relevancy.
Which 30 players do you think finished ahead of him?
The other players who played NRL excluding Jrthur as he left, plus Ky Rodwell.
I don't remember it.
I reckon you are the only one here who don’t.

You’re gotcha. Fine take your pick of the experienced, highly skilled but highly error prone Lumelume, who’d I’d have ahead of the reserve grade dominant Rodwell, who’d I’d have ahead of the speedy potential of AMS who showed more effort than Moimosea. Mataele is another to consider but I’m not convinced his defence issues would cover the gap to AMS.
Moretti’s reserve grade form from prior to 2023 is irrelevant to discussion about his current form. All it really proves is players get better/worse. Maybe Moretti will be the one to fall out of the top 30 in 2024!

Except this year when Moretti’s stats shit on Moimosea’s. And also shows Moimosea had his worse season since his first with Knights. Almost like one player got better while the other got worse. But hey it could mean they go the other way in 2024.
Well we'll see how another pre-season treats him. Form isn't static. Momoisea and Moretti are proof of that. And recency bias is a killer.
Recency bias in determining where players sit at a point in time is perfectly acceptable.

The good news for you is Moimosea is back in our best 30 players now. Although that’s because our top 30 standard has dropped. Even then it’s still probably a close run thing between Moimosea, Cini, Mataele and Taumoepenu. I suspect Talagi will quickly go past all of them.

I have a theory that @Poupou Escobar cannot be just one person. No one person can have that amount of energy to contradict everything and everyone. I reckon @Poupou Escobar is a group of morons who get together and take shifts to talk shit. Rant over.

I swear he's said he's got a job and a family. There's just no way, that being true, he's got the time and effort to white knight this much for the club. Must be the clubs PR department.
