I think you’ll find the irrelevancy in this discussion about player performance is them signing with clubs, other than that being further evidence one way or another of their performance.
Since this thread is around decisions made by clubs (and rumours thereof) then signing players is entirely relevant.
Do you reckon will see a Moimosea extension in the future based on how he’s gone so far?
He is a backup, so it would be based more on the alternatives than his form. I would say it's possible he re-signs, though I think the way he was quickly demoted shows he is seen as a poor fit for our group.
This could easily be gotcha moment. Players getting better/worse was the crux of my argument. Whether they signed or not, see above for relevancy.
I'm sure I have already agreed that players can get better and worse. Can clubs predict this? I would say that is easier with younger or older players and harder for players around Momoisea's age. That's why he was only signed for two years.
The other players who played NRL excluding Jrthur as he left, plus Ky Rodwell.
I'd say he's on about the same level as Rodwell. Both solid reserve graders who have their strengths and weaknesses. Decent bottom-of-the-30 squad members.
I reckon you are the only one here who don’t.
Well I'm disinclined to crowdsource my opinions.
You’re gotcha. Fine take your pick of the experienced, highly skilled but highly error prone Lumelume, who’d I’d have ahead of the reserve grade dominant Rodwell, who’d I’d have ahead of the speedy potential of AMS who showed more effort than Moimosea. Mataele is another to consider but I’m not convinced his defence issues would cover the gap to AMS.
Moretti’s reserve grade form from prior to 2023 is irrelevant to discussion about his current form. All it really proves is players get better/worse. Maybe Moretti will be the one to fall out of the top 30 in 2024!
omg I wonder whose fault it will be!!! I'm tipping some merkin will blame the club.
Except this year when Moretti’s stats shit on Moimosea’s. And also shows Moimosea had his worse season since his first with Knights. Almost like one player got better while the other got worse. But hey it could mean they go the other way in 2024.
With Moretti coming into the top 30 in 2025 and Momoisea off contract, we better f**king hope not.
Recency bias in determining where players sit at a point in time is perfectly acceptable.
Point in time is when players are signed, and they aren't all signed at the start of every season. Not even the NRLW does it like that any more.
The good news for you is Moimosea is back in our best 30 players now.
How could you possibly know that before a ball has been kicked?
Although that’s because our top 30 standard has dropped. Even then it’s still probably a close run thing between Moimosea, Cini, Mataele and Taumoepenu. I suspect Talagi will quickly go past all of them.
As the youngest member of the top 30 he is the most likely to improve.

Just one thing on the roster. It’s got weaker each of the past 2 years and the recruitment team seem to escape any action within the confines of the club, the board should be examining what is missing from that area.
The way rosters are constructed, they have peaks and whatever the opposite of a peak is. This is why we have the term 'premiership window'. Ours peaked in 2022 when we made the grand final. In that year we had the following merkins on significant unders:

Penisini
Drown
Mahoney
Papali'i
Niukore
Kaufusi

After 2022 they all got big upgrades to match their value, and thus couldn't all stay at our club without breaching the cap. Now our squad strength has reverted to mean, which is why we are suddenly mid-table. We need to rebuild, and hopefully all these youngsters in Jersey Flegg allow us to beat the cap for another couple of years. We might even win a premiership. It's very exciting.

Penrith were able to circumvent that despite losing the likes of Kikau, Burton, Koroisau, Capewell who are even better than the players we lost. Just shows that if you plan properly then it’s possible to remain competitive.

They have to operate under a salary cap like everyone else. I’m sure they would have kept Koroisau over Mitch Kenny and Kikau over Garner for example. Their systems were obviously just better than ours where bringing in plodders didn’t weigh their team down to such an extent as it did with ours.

So TCT thinks our roster is at 30.
Actually, when I look at the NRL lists that were all just updated for 2024, a whole bunch of clubs are sitting on 30. So what are the rules now ?

Previously, the Top 30 rules were actually published in the final paragraph in the below page, however this year, nuffin.

The opposite of a peak is a trough. Not sure what the opposite of a windows is, though.

Agree. Every other year clubs are at 27 or 28. I reckon some sort of rules changed or list isn't accurate.
