Penrith were a pretty mediocre club during the 2010s. Broncos missed the finals two years in a row due to poor management. Just shows that even having a lot of resources isn’t a slam dunk for success if you don’t utilise them properly.
The Broncos have been right up there for a long time. They had a 2 year hiccup and are now back. Penrith I'm not sure about. Gould's influence/power? The creation of very good juniors pathways? Incredibally good management over past 10 years? Cheating salary cap? Dunno. I think my post probably still stands, though.

I thought Brisbane missed the finals 4 years in a row 2019-2022.

Well you may as well include 2019 they certainly didn't turn up to commbank stadium that afternoon to play.

I think a few of them were still sitting at the pokies somewhere in Sydney

If they’re paying a lot of blokes less than what they’re worth then they will be able to fit more talent under the cap. Just like we did in 2021-2022. I suspect it’s unsustainable even for Penrith. We’ve seen the Storm and Roosters have peaks and troughs in the strength of their NRL squads as well. Why would it be any different for us? The Panthers club at the moment is an extreme outlier. They have cracked the code for squad succession but does that mean the other 16 clubs don’t know what they’re doing? Or just Parramatta?
Their coaching staff are just better at coming up with systems to minimise the impact of the plodders in their side. I bet if you put the likes of Mitch Kenny, Jack Cogger and Luke Garner in our team their limitations would get exposed a lot more than they do at Penrith. That has nothing to do with paying players less than they’re worth.

The Broncos haven’t won a comp in over 17 years now. For a club that has the resources they have that is an abysmal failure.
I would say that Penriths success has been based around unlocking the magic formula to having an outstanding defensive system. Have to give their coaching staff alot of credit for that because they’re a champion team but not necessarily a team of champions.

It does mate, because their non-plodders are all genuine Origin players with half their salary paid to their dad. Like I said, it's not your plodders (e.g. Momoisea) that decide the fate of your team, it's your highest paid players who determine that.

NRL 2024 TRAIN AND TRIAL LIST
Dan Keir (backrow), Apa Twidle (outside back), Matt Arthur (hooker), Richard Penisini (centre), Josh Lynn (half), Arthur Miller-Stephens (outside back)
Where'd you get this from, Perpetual Motion?
I’d say down below. Remember that Train n Trial is what we used to call Dev contracts, meaning that they are eligible to play NRL from Rnd 11. As are the reggies players ~ but then you have the fine print stuff that got Hands games before Rnd 11.
