There aren't any off-contract dummy halves that I believe would be a big improvement on De Gois, even going into this year I couldn't think of one that I said "Oh yeah they'll be value for money". Yeah sure you have Peats but people were also complaining about our ruck area when he was at dummy half.

Our best option would be holding off until next year when there's a few dummy halves that come off contract, the biggest one being Josh Hodgson and Canberra also have Baptiste coming off contract in the same year. So the thinking behind signing De Gois for 2 years (contract finishes after 2018 surprisingly) was that we may not have the greatest attacking dummy half running around but he will be the cheapest option and it would allow us to spend more in other areas where we can attack from. Plus De Gois isn't a defensive liability.

Dummy half is definitely a priority in the fan's eyes, I think we could use a better player there. But I don't think the club should have just gone out and bought a dummy half for the sake of buying a dummy half. When the right player comes off contract that's when we'll strike, and we certainly have the money that a top dummy half would want.
This may be what you meant, but Hodgson is contracted until the end of 2018.

This is purely my opinion but I just don't think going two years with a very ordinary hooker in your starting side is the right way to go. I know I'm pretty much alone on this but I would have taken the gamble with Farah for two years. I don't think he'll be as influential and dominating in a new environment, especially one that includes the likes of Scott, Mau etc. I'd also take Peats back in a heartbeat next year.

I don't classify anyone as a plodder. But if you're going to throw the term around to describe professional athletes then why not Smith? He's not known for his speed, though I'm sure that, just like Ennis and De Gois, he's a lot quicker than either of us.
Yes he doesn't do a lot of scoots out of dummy half but controls the games (and refs) very well. Might be classed as a plodder there but definitely not a plodder between the ears.

Yeah that's what I meant, but we are able to "sign him" from the 1st of November 2017 which is what I meant.

Dummy half is probably the most influential position in the game, they touch the ball the most after all. I don't think Farah's style of play would work well with our style of play with the current players that we have. He needs a big rolling forward pack so he can work well, and he'll get that at south sydney, I'm not sure if we're currently at that level with our middle forwards. I reckon we'd rather go after potentially the best dummy half in the world in 2018 or someone else when there's more exciting dummy halves available.
