Won't the kick offs be so shallow that the opposing team will not have time to contest the ball? Could even be kicked backwards as long as your player gets out of in-goal area.
It still has to go 10m.

100%

Thia shit just came from nowhere
Ive read a theory on the interwebs that at first seemed crazy but the more I think about it could be real.

Theory being the NRL have introduced this as a way of reducing the frequency of a front rower running at top speed into a defensive line starting with a 50m start to reduce risk of head injuries and that this rule has been made for risk mitigation reasons. Apparently a similar thing has been done in NFL.

Initially thought it was wild speculation, but it might explain why it has come from left field.

What a ridiculous rule! So now every kick off will be contested (there was nothing stopping this from happening previously) unless a team is up by a couple of points with a few minutes to go. Then you can bet there will be a traditional kick off.

The lack of penalty for kicking out on the full is silly. So why is a knock on when trying to ground the ball for a try penalised with a 7 tackle set?

What is even more ridiculous is that it is at the referees discretion if it was intended to be contested, so if you kick of and it goes out 10m from half way, opposition ptb. If it goes out 15m, probably opposition ptb, 25m out opposition penalty, 20m out 50/50?

What happens if someone does a Michael Witt drop out and the ball ends up going backwards into the in-goal area.

So every kick you’ll need your winger to run 10m, turn to face the kicker and look shocked when the ball is actually sailing over sideline around the 30m line, while the kicker yells repeatedly “Damn the wind got hold of that one!”

A small update:

Blaize Talagi is a gun and is expected to play some first grade this season. He is highly rated by the club but still needs to fill out.

Meanwhile Kelma Tuilagi has been the most impressive and somewhat a surprise and will be picked in our 17. The club is of the view that he will have a breakout season and already think that he has more skill than what Papali’i had when he initially arrived at our club.

Said it before, Talagi will end the year as other centre with Penisini
