Anyone else get the feeling that the years following 2022 are going to be very similar to 2009? I think we are in for a world of pain.
One big difference i see is we still have a quality halfback something we lacked in those years.

We had Mortimer, Kris Keating, Robson, Sandow, Luke Kelly, Ben Roberts.

If Moses plays 20+ games in a season we should be playing finals.

He only played 19 games last year and this year he wont get to 20.

This season was always going to be a house of cards.

You can't rely on your Top 17 to remain fit and on the field for every game of the season for you to even just be a contender for the Top 8. For mine this was pretty obvious at the start of the season, and we were living in hope that everyone stays healthy. It is unrealistic.

I saw Barnesy play many times. An ok fullback but not in the same class as Thornett or Johns. That said, boy he was one hell of a goal kicker back in the days of water absorbing leather footballs. As a kid I recall a match at the old Sydney Sports Ground. Barnes was lining up a sideline conversion and I was hanging over the fence screaming at him that he couldnt kick his grandmother out of bed. He casually booted the ball between the posts.
RIP Golden Boots.

He was a fullback, kicked 742 goals in 13 years which is amazing.

He only scored 11 tries ? How can that be right ?

2009 - grand finalists, 2010 - 12th, 2011 - 14th
2022 - grand finalists, 2023 - 10th, 2024 - 14th (currently)

As I commented he was an ok fullback. Got picked for Australia via his goal kicking. At that time fullback play was very different. Kicking duels and last line of D. Thornett was a revelation. I think(???) he was the first Australian fullback to score a try in a test match. Then along came Les Johns and Langlands who were equally dynamic.
Good old days Gronky.

We also let go of James Maloney in that era. He ended up being quite a good halfback and winning a premiership with Cronulla.

We've somehow been allowed (by coach/HOF/CEO/board) to become a one man team again, something that never should have happened after the Hayne era.

We have

Moses
Brown
Gutho
RCG
Paulo

all on excess of $800k a year.

If you are going to blow nearly 40% of your 30 man roster on 5 players - you better be damn sure those 5 players are at a level that if one of them is missing, the over 4 will get you results in 80-90% of games, and if 2 are missing you are at worst a 50-60% chance of winning.

I reckon without Moses we are a 20% chance of wining games, which is pathetic.

It's time we bite the bullet and release one of Paulo or RCG. On recent form, that person is Paulo.

Give him to the Dragons in exchange for Lomax - tomorrow.

Give Brown until the end of 24 to show he can step into a consistent dominant 5/8 role (not sporadic moments of brilliance) or else he can take is highly optioned deal and stick it, or accept a more reasonable salary of $600k which is the level he plays at 90% of the time.

In the meantime, bring back Brodie Croft from the SL. We'd get him for under $250k for the rest of this year, replaces Moses whilst he is out, and then can be a 14 for the remainder of the season.

Lussick can clean toilets. Hands plays 60mins with Hopgood covering 9 for 20 mins

Gutho for all his brilliance is overpaid. Having the greatest efforts and attitude is commendable, but if it doesnt rub off on anyone, its a waste. He needs to shift to centre, and we need a fullback plan long term. Whether thats Lomax for 12 months and then Blaize once he gets grounded in first grade etc, it needs to change.

I think we should make Mitch captain. Gutherson needs a slight relocation. I mean relegation.

If he didn’t write it, then he’s signed off on it.

Yeah - and if you've ever been there, then you'd know you don't have time to re-write all the crap messages that get fed to you at the last second asking you to sign off on them.
Sure, you'd think it was a big one - but these guys are flat chat all the time and have to either trust their underlings, or sack them.

You might get one of these guys up on the stage presenting a message they've been handed (that they realise is tripe while presenting it) - so they do it, and the best of them quietly go behind the scenes and sort out the ones who gave them the tripe to present.

Again, I'm not at all defending JimmyS - I don't know anything about him. The good is that we have STACKS of footy $$ to spend (like, we are a powerhouse on that front). The bad is the results on the field. Jimmy's job is to sort that out overall - but he should be doing that via MON and BA. We'll see if he does? I give Jimmy until the end of the year before referring him to Avenger for a listing....

Didn't see last nites horror show and won't be looking at the score but what has happened to our defence????? Moses gone for half the season and our attack revolves around him (maybe too much by the look of our piss poor attack) but apparently our defence does also. There is no reason our defence is suddenly so brittle so what else is going on?

I know Blaize is poor defensively and needs to go back to cup (where whole team poor after 60 mins) and Asi promoted, he will help DB with attack and not so poor defensively, but the whole team needs to have a good look at themselves. Maybe BA needs a sticky blow up moment and then maybe team will respond in a positive manner. This is up to YOU BA, your job is on the line and poor selections like Blaize, lack of backline players for 3 years now, changing a winning strategy and lack of mental fortitude are ALL on you!

Absolutely noone: What do you think Tiger5150?

Tiger 5150: Without Moses kicking game, you guys are being forced to do more defence, from worse positions and less "easy" defence (pinning them on their line) and it all adds up.

Makes a lot of sense.
