Is he worth more than that to us? No.
Is he worth more than that to a team prepared to pay overs?
Serious question - Why is he not worth more than that to us? Because of the guys we've already got on the books for the next few years like Sivo, Gutho? Because Lomax is coming??

What if we could jettison Sivo, and what if Gutho had to retire because his knees are f**ked (purely hypothetical I realise) - I assume he becomes worth a lot more to us then yeah? Our backline is the slowest and most ineffective in the comp.

Like it or not, if our current underwhelming performances continue with our ageing and non-mobile pack coupled the impotent backline on the books, then we are very quickly going to be one of those clubs that has to pay overs to recruit and retain the players we need/want...

I'm not directing the following at you at all, but there are a few others around here that thumb their nose at the likes of the Tigers, Dogs, Dragons etc and ridicule them for being basket case clubs going nowhere.... But 2 of those teams are sitting better than us on the table right now, and the other one has already beaten us this season...

These were the things said when we lost Stefano and “nobody” knew how good he would be.

we either don’t have a system attractive enough for our good juniors to stay or we don’t value our juniors - take it as read, I know at least three kids in the junior rep teams who signed with parra as juniors because the junior system is secure and decent, but their managers and parents have actively said that if they want to take the next step they would need to move on from parra once they progress to open age.

Would definitely help, as long as BA is here that's clearly not happening until his son comes through though, and even then it could just be Jake 2.0.
Dead accurate.

it’s an open secret in rugby league that no decent 9 should bother with parra until Boods has had his shot - everyone else is just a seat warmer until he is ready.

Even if Matt Arthur turns out to be good, he will only ever reach 75% of his potential at best playing under his father.

Great defense, decent run game. But he isnt in Munsters class. Doesn't seem to own a game. Still young enough to improve.
Munster is a strange player. At times runs around seemingly unaware of what he is doing next before doing something that may come to a try. I think he has better systems around him where players respond better while ours stand and watch the ball. Put him in our team and he'd probably be as effective as Dyl.

I think we are lacking a hard-nosed, no-nonsense, "shut the f**k up, and follow my lead" type of leader.

I think Gutho fills the role well, but:

(1) His form has fallen off a cliff, likely due to his bad knees; and

(2) He is not fit at the moment.

If we had a Beau Scott-type in the side currently, it would serve us well.

In our current squad, who stands out as a genuine leader?

I'd say Reg, but his head is clearly not in the game at the moment, and understandably so.

Serious question though, have we rolled over or simply been out enthused, out paced and hence out played?
Whose job is it to enthuse the team? Apparently not BA and if we're out paced is that on the coach who has not kept up with the game, playing his old style 'chase the collision' strategy.

No, I simply dont think he has shown enough to go much higher than $400k. In 3 years when his cootract was renewed, he would be our 22 year old first choice FB and could get $600k+ per year. We could also upgrade him before then if we chose to.

since the end of the 2018 season BA has been on a mission to build a huge forward pack. it was an effective strategy for a few years but in 2024 as vlandys ball has gotten faster and faster we have been left behind. We dominate early in games when everyone is fresh but if we are going set for set we are just gassed by the middle of the second half and other teams are shredding up with speed and mobility. our attack doesn't produce enough points to keep the ball in our hands and we dont have the discipline and keep turning the ball over, prob cause of fatigue.

BA has completely ignored those kinda of forward to work themselves to a stand still in favour of giants. This pack needs balance, big guys who can cart the ball up but smaller guys who can keep those feet moving under fatigue.

RCG
Peats
Paulo
Cartwright
I Hindmarsh
Wagon

thats what a pack should look like in 2024. BA just keeps doubling down on giant slugs.

if you sat blaize and his folks down in the pre season and offered him a 250k multi year deal im sure they would have been very happy.

Munster can be brilliant, more like a No 7 wearing a no 6 jersey for mine. Certainly not as good defensively as Dylbro imo.

He can also go missing and has the occasional brainf**k, he's only human I guess.

I'm pretty happy with Dylbro as when I first saw him as a junior I enver imagined he would be this good.

But Moses wouldn’t have.

Maybe not but who cares

It's about getting out infront things, I don't know if the club attempted to re sign blaize before the PO but I'm going to guess they sat their hands. A parra special

It’s not even about Blaize as an individual. If we are going to plough big money into Moses, Brown etc then we need young hot boys to be coming through on cheaper deals. The Harpers of the world aren’t going to cut it. Add to that Blaize can probably cover multiple positions ( unlike Sanders), we can’t afford to be losing juniors like that that we have developed.

I agree the halves are our strength, but they are only part of the puzzle. Defence in the modern game requires mobile forwards.
Its why we need a clean out and ideally a new coach with some new ideas/strategies.

I think BA has come too far with his current ideology/system he has built to rebuild it again with his own voice.

We need a full systematic change across the board from replenishing the coaching ranks and parts of our forward pack/backline. A few tweaks here and there will make the reload a lot quicker then a 6/7 year rebuild if we keep persisting down the hole we are going.

Only 5 or 6 players are contracted post 2025. Its why a new coach is perfect at the end of this season to come in and decide before November 1 who he wants post 2025 & who he doesn't want. He wont be inheriting any mess after year 1 and can mould the roster how he likes with the style he wants to play.
