And you don't seem to understand that just because you strong arm someone with a "reward" rather than an obvious threat, doesn't make for any less a coerced response....

No. You attempted to use the term to connect the offering of cash in this case to one of domestic violence....Despite the fact that neither the dictionary, nor legal definitions, of coercion include the offering of money to someone to get them to do something that they otherwise wouldn't do.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that offering a cash payment to somebody is not coercion. But I've said that before and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Bryce made her the "victim" by coercing her the way he did, so he doesn't really have anyone to blame but himself. Who knows what she would have done had that not occurred? She may have taken exactly the same course of action and none of this would ever be an issue, but we'll never know because her f**k buddy decided to strong arm her with money and authority
He had no authority over her any more than he does over you. In fact she had authority over him for the better part of two decades and she traded it in for cash up front.

I hope she has a good financial advisor, but something tells me this girl will never be short of spending money.

I just wish my employer would stop coercing me into doing what I wouldn't otherwise do. Which is work.

I'm not sure that's the case.

Both of them seem to be fairly remorseless cretins. I don't see any victims, I just see two shithouse human beings. They are exactly the sort of people who shouldn't breed, but sadly often the people that do.

Miss X, who said she gave the $50,000 to charity,

Seems she may be short $50,000.... possibly.

The fine is split over two years.
Just on the 7 weeks suspension and fine does anybody know what penalty Matt Lodge got as now playing for Redcliffe in Qld Cup and apparently signed by Broncos. Is there one rule for 15 clubs and another for Broncos? (Roberts anyone?)

Coercion implies the use of threats, force, authority or power.

What about throwing 50k at a problem to make it go away isn't the use of power or authority? Or force for that matter? It doesn't have to be physical force....what kind of mental pressure do you reckon 50k puts on a worried 20 year old? Is that not using force?

NO.

I fail to see how any of what was published is anyone's business TBH.

In Cartwright's defence he has stayed mute thru all this while she has been blabbing to all. It is possible she became pregnant to force him into marriage. My personal view is that if the pregnancy is deliberate to force an outcome (ie marriage -that's coercion) then the woman should be solely responsible for the baby. Anyway all speculation by me but he is a young bloke who in all probability doesn't want to be married at his age. He has yet to tell his side of the story but it is getting very grubby. BTW does the $50k count towards the cap as it should!

Lodge is de-registered at the NRL level. The unofficial story seems to be that he will remain de-registered for the rest of 2017. So he has copped more than a 7 week suspension.

"We've had some applications around his re-entry to a training program," Greenberg said.

"We're going to consider those, but in the short-term no (he won't have a contract registered in 2017)."

Pressed on Lodges prospects of a future return to the NRL, Greenberg replied: "We'll probably assess that down the track but they're some pretty serious issues that he had to face and I understand he's getting some things in order, which I'm really pleased about.

"It's a real privilege to play the game, it's not a right, so when you step outside or you go against the rules we have to have consequences."

Garbage. If this is true Cartwright and by extension the Panthers people who helped him have acted in a way that is absolutely morally repugnant, far more so than pouring a drink on someone. He deserves to be smeared all over the papers and deserves to be known as the piece of shit he is

I guess that's the question, isn't it? And if what is true? Do we have all the facts?

Of course she was coerced ffs. She's in her early 20s, probably tremendously lost about what to do and she was offered offered more money than she probably makes in a year at that age...how on earth do you figure she wasn't coerced?

With all due respect, you are making a hell of a lot of assumptions there.

It's not coercion. It may not be good, and it may constitute illegal behaviour in another sense (not talking about any particular case). E.g. if you offer a financial inducement for someone to commit crime that is illegal, but that still wouldn't be coercion.

Now, if you say, 'If you don't do X' I'm going to take your $$$/home/assets.....that is coercion..

No; that's extortion.
