With the pending departure of Gutherson, our situation feels reminiscent of when we let the last of the Canterbury 4 go in '99 and started the baby Eels era. Hopefully, the rest will depart at the end of next season, allowing Ryles to kick off his own mini dynasty and revival.

Meanwhile, Flanagan is once again playing his geriatric version of Moneyball and reminiscing about 2016.

Exciting times ahead.

They don't stop any player from signing any contracts. What they do is make it count under the salary cap that clubs agreed to, under threat of playing for no competition points. The NRL doesn't dictate whether players sign or for how much. They don't even stop merkins playing. But if a club is over the cap they play for no points. Everyone still gets paid. No club is entitled to receive competition points when they play or compete in the finals. That's up to the NRL.
The NRL doesnt stop a player signing a Contract but what you are talking about would stop a club signing the player which is a restraint of trade. Its not my opinion, its already been tested in court and its common sense. If a player signs a Contract that has nothing to do with the club, $0 goes on the cap no matter how much the player earns.

Hypothetically Tampax signs King Guffo for $2M to be the face of Tampax, Guffo cant sign for any club?

Firstly Pou clearly showed it’s not a restraint of trade. Everyone gets paid and no one is stopped from doing their job. It’s just the competition they signed up for kind of becomes moot then.
Secondly the CBA specifically dictates this. The players have agreed to allow this degree of “restraint of trade”.
Thirdly I don’t think Pou or anyone else suggested all TPAs should be included under the cap (at least not without new CBA).

One thing Ryles said that stood out.

Was were going to play our own style the Parramatta Way. Ryles will create his own style and back himself.

He is not going to full on copy Melbourne or the Roosters because he knows we don't have the players to play that way. Take parts of each and implement what he have.

Its something that dimwit Kearney when he arrived didnt figure out from day 1. Trying to turn us into Melbourne when we weren't capable of it.

Clearly its one of the functions it serves, but it isnt/wasnt the purpose that it was brought in for, which is also why it doesnt work well in serving that function. That function is a secondary "lucky coincidence" because its the only lever that the NRL has.

Well....taken at face value....when one states a question 'Why do we do X', and list 2 reasons, that implies that that each of the reasons represents part of the purpose of X. Now, they could be not telling 100% of the story, but they are certainly suggesting that talent-spreading is part of the purpose of the cap.

Perth will get in.

PVL is making sure the WA government pay up though to come in.

Making sure there HBF park gets upgraded and a RL academy probably gets setup for pathways.

The AFL have try to bludgeoned there way into our states by milking off the government for stadiums, academys, facilities

I dont blame PVL for playing the dirty game that the grubs down there have for so long.

Its something our weak leaders like Greenberg, Dave Smith, Gallop before him haven't even dared to do.
