Changing the topic

Just had lunch at the Dural Club, which Parra Leagues bought and refurbished.

Nice and reasonably quiet given its position and good bistro/restaurant and an equally spacious lounge and coffee area.

Well worth a visit ,particularly if you live in the Hills area as it’s a much easier drive than going into Parramatta. Will definitely go back as the child bride thought it was nice.

Really Keen to see how we go into the season with new faces and obviously changes to onfield tactics.

The concern in the back of the head remains that the roster on paper is not as good as the 2021 and 2022 teams , and as a club we should look to have improved the roster over 2 years, but sort of failed to recognise the change in the game and failed to replace players that moved on, and took too many chances on improving players that were recruited other than signing a finished article.

Still think we will improve and look forward to seeing younger players promoted when the chance arrives , rather than rely on journeymen

f**k sorry….

I suspect Brailey will be a no (at best midseason). My thoughts are if he isn’t here soon, we’re better off exploring elsewhere for a 2026 start.

I agree, mate - especially given Brailey's injury history, having him here earlier would be beneficial.

If we can't sign him, maybe we are best served looking elsewhere.

Think this whole commentary on autism and using disability labels as insults or jabs at people is really important, as it’s a massive issue in society. Whilst I don’t think anyone on here is using it to specifically cause insult, that doesn’t make it acceptable.

I was once part of that issue as a young man. I’d casually call an idiot friend a “spastic” or a “genius”. Maturity has taught me that’s not right and being ignorant of how words hurt others isn’t an excuse.

It took me having a son born with Downs Syndrome and the associate heart conditions that often come with that for me to wake up. I wouldn’t wish that lesson on anyone, so I try to educate my mates. And yeah it falls on deaf ears at times, but they know not to say that shit around me. And if I hear someone in public even a stranger using those words I tell them to pull their head in.

Neuro-diverse people, disabled people, don’t choose their condition, but we can choose the language we use.

Well said - I think society needs to understand that people are born different, and we should accept them for who they are.

A friend of mine the other day was talking about his son (4 years old, same age as my son) at a BBQ, and how his son is struggling to learn to toilet train.

He, and his wife, have suspected that their son is on the spectrum, but they're not totally sure, as he does not tick all the usual boxes, so to speak.

My friend's brother - a nice guy, but he doesn't always think, before he speaks - blurted out, "I mean, how hard is it? Pull ya daks down, sit on the toilet, and off you go."

He brought my mate's wife to tears.

This guy, like I said, is a good bloke - he just wasn't thinking.

Luckily, he realised that he upset his sister-in-law, and quickly apologised, but it is indicative of societal norms when it comes to neuro typicality.

But the best thing to do, I think, is to educate people on how to help those who are different.

Anyway - bring on 29265!

I think our roster for 2025 is pretty good.

Notable losses will be Sivo, and Gutherson.

But we have Lomax, and Iongi/Papalii ready to step up.

Moses will be ready to go after an injury-disrupted 2024.

Williams is an astute signing - the prototypical modern game middle forward.

Addo-Carr brings baggage with him, but he's a genuine superstar - Moses will be relishing the chance to kick to the Fox.

I expect Gasnier to have an impact on developing Penisini's game.

I'm excited for next year.

to me it has a 2000 season feel to it. lost a few experienced fellas from the 99 season and promoted a few exciting kids for the following season and still had a few experienced heads.

If you want to play semantics the continuum would be very incompetent to very competent. Your assertion about it starting at “least competent” is wrong.
Again, I don’t think ‘incompetent’ is a measurable thing. It is a value judgement of competence against an arbitrary standard.
Do you really think people don’t get fired for their jobs for being incompetent?
I’m sure it happens, but the vast majority of people who are sacked aren’t sacked for incompetence. Given competent people miss out on jobs, ‘incompetent’ people are generally weeded out during the hiring process. Especially where it’s a high consequence role with a lot of money involved. Employers can afford to commit significant resources to candidate vetting.
You absolutely can make the wrong decision.
Agreed
Are you saying someone can’t have sufficient information and just use poor judgment in their decision making?
Why would you think I’m saying that? I’m not defending anyone’s decisions because I’m not privy to their decision making process. Instead I am criticising your judgement (and others like you) for criticising the club’s decision makers. You don’t have access to their decision making process so you don’t know. However I am well aware of your decision making process, because you merkins post it ad nauseum on the internet. If the club was happy to make its decisions with as little information as you merkins do when criticising the club on the internet then yes, I would be critical of the club.

But you are just projecting. You have f**k all information required to understand the club’s decisions so you assume the club also has f**k all information. Or worse, you assume the information you have (from watching games, reading the media, and hearing rumours) is the entirety of the information that matters.
There’s a reason why CEOs can sacked when companies perform well. When Apple was in trouble do you think Steve Jobs just got lucky compared to his predecessor or was he demonstrably a better decision maker?
The fact is we don’t know how much luck was involved. He’s obviously highly competent or he wouldn’t have gotten the job. But plenty of highly competent people also oversee business failures. They still end up rehired, because failure is one of the possible outcomes of risky or competitive activities such as commercial enterprise.
You can judge whether a good decision was made based on outcome and results. Everyone-both insiders and outsiders has demonstrable data to make that call.
No they don’t. Risk is inherent to all of these decisions, which means that outcomes are affected by factors out of the decision maker’s control. From the outsider’s perspective, they can’t tell the difference between poor decisions and bad luck. Often the insiders can’t even separate the two.
You and I are both internet deadshits mate. If you say nobody has a right to have an opinion because we aren’t part of the organisation then neither do you. You’re doing the exact thing you’re criticising people for. Just in the opposite direction.
This is what I said above. I’m not defending their decisions because I don’t know. I am criticising your claim that you have all the information necessary.

They might well be making poor decisions, but you and I certainly aren’t in any position to tell.
The idea that we can’t have an opinion on something because we have insufficient information and then to go ahead and defend the organisation with the same lack of information is rather contradictory.
That’s because you’re conflating two different things. It’s true that we don’t have enough information to assess the club’s individual decisions, but we certainly have enough to assess the club’s overall ability to make decisions. By any metric the current mob deserve a pass. They don’t deserve to be criticised by rugby league journalists or the types of idiots they are writing for.

Even if you think there was always a chance that Dunster could’ve had a career ending injury right after signing a long deal, or that Moses was going to become injury prone, or that JAC might go off the rails and disgrace the club. Of course all these things are possible. Your problem is you think the club wasn’t aware of it.

That’s nice to hear. He is probably as nice as you are my friend.

But can I ask you a question if he started to stop being nice and let’s hypothetically assume he created a username and called himself @Poupou Escobar and started pissing people off, is he allowed to be called out? Are we allowed to assume that the autism may have contributed to his behaviour and if we do are we insulting everyone in the world with autism, even my coworker who loves pizza?
I don’t mind pizza.

I haven’t seen much of Ionghi but if he goes as well as he is expected I think our back line will be more potent than the last few years but I’m not sure about the forwards and our ability to win and defend the middle.
Maybe Ryles has a different way of playing in mind, for attack.
Anyone care to speculate on how we might play? Beyond the stated goal of being faster.
