Maybe, every team that has won the comp like previously mentioned have forwards who play massive and damaging minutes.

Burgess, Tamou, Taumalolo, JWH, Fifita, even Graham included there've all won comps or made grand finals.

I'll throw the name "Manu Ma'u" into the mix.

He's not a tight forward, but he sure as hell is damaging, and he plays big minutes.

Most of those premiership winning teams also had a damaging edge forward who played decent minutes:

Tohu Harris, Boyd coroner , wade graham, tony Williams (the one good year he had). Teams need both a damaging middle forward and an edge 2nd rower who causes problems on the edge

Alvaro to wenty and Matagi bench with a better prop.
Beau Scott may call it quits.

I think a halfback unless Dargan is up for it. I just dont see Taka lasting the year in centres.
Sure a lot of our guys are under contract but not to many are old or playing terrible.
I reckon plenty would get interest from other clubs with most contract paid. Not many would be on silly overs.

Alvaro made 122 metres off the bench against Cronulla, and was defensively a wall - why should he get demoted?

I really like the kid, btw - string work ethic, and great energy.

My apologies if this has already been duscussed to death but, it seems most Parra fans want to see the return of Nathan Peats. I understand that he's a decent player but is incredibly injury prone. Kaysa also seems to be as injury prone as Peats. Cameron King is even less of an option as he's injured more than Pritchard and Peats.

Surely we should be looking for another option as I can't see any of those 3 being consistent nor long term players.

I don't disagree.

I think Mannah and Matagi are very good tight forwards, but we would be well served to have an impact tight forward.

But then, maybe we have that forward in Vave already...

Only 4 forwards in the whole NRL competition are yet to break a tackle. Including bench locks-second rowers.
Woods-Grant-Boyd-Mannah

Mannah and Woods are doing a lot of work thou. Boyd form has been woefull

I can speak from experience - it's not impossible, but it's INCREDIBLY hard to break a tackle, as a tight forward, when you're running at three or four defenders...

To much like Mannah. And when have beau scott and tepai hitting it up like women you dont want another guy doing the same.

Eh??

122 metres from 14 runs equals 8.7 metres per run.

Paul Gallen is averaging 9.2 metres per run this year.

I hardly think Alvaro is "running like a woman".

The most important assets for those premiership winning sides are their 1,6,7,9. Props are incidental and the fact that they happened to have elite props is no more relevant to the win than having an elite winger. As long as the creative players have a platform to work from there's no need for an elite prop.

Melbourne won with Ben Cross and Brett White in 2007
Manly won 40-0 with Brent Kite and Josh Perry in 2008
Melbourne won with Aiden Tolman and Brett White in 2009
St George won with Nevill Costigan and Michael Weyman in 2010
Manly won with Joe Galuvao and Brent Kite in 2011

Further, in 2012 Jesse Bromwich was a rookie, not the elite player he is now, and his starting partner was Bryan Norrie.

Mr 57% has an irrational dislike of Alvaro. He's a very high quality young player, but because he doesn't run like Taumololo Mr 57% doesn't rate him.

Interesting points.

I'm sure that for the first half of the season, that Arthur is telling Gutherson to keep it simple, and back himself.

As he develops, I'm sure he will start to accrue LBA's.
I am inclined to agree. Gutherson had 7 LBAs last year, and that only included half a dozen games in the spine.

Recent history e.g. The last 5 years shows u need a damaging middle forward. The 1,6,7 and 9 would much rather play off the back of that damaging middle forwards run. Take a close look at the Cowboys this week. Watch what tackle talmololo takes his run. Then watch the next play afterwards. I guarantee you thurston is getting the ball the next play with a retreating defensive line.

Also Brent Kite was awesome that year. I think he even won the Clive Churchill medal IIRC?

There's a lot to it then a middle forward barging up the middle, attempting to break tackles.

Winning the ruck from the play the ball, good service from dummy half, DH able to draw in defenders and so on.

Otherwise it could also be that mannah is shit. Lol

Last year he was our best player IMO. Ahead of Norman. This year Ma'u has been down on form, though it appears he is less integral to our attack.

In 2016 he averaged 14 runs and 126 metres, which is slightly better than the 13 for 116 from the year before. This year he is 12 for 112, so maybe not as down on form as I thought. Swapping sides mid-game could be holding him back.

I reckon that is it for sure. I hate the fact that we are moving arguably our best player from his best position

Of course JT is, he's the best half in the world.

You can create a retreating defensive line without an elite prop. In fact, a top flight hooker is much more useful for this than any prop in the game.

As I demonstrated, the most important thing for winning a comp is your spine. You won't do it with a shit pack or even a mediocre one, but if you have four or five players making 100m plus every week and dominating the metres then your pack is good enough. We have a pack capable of that, what we desperately need is a quality hooker and a partner for Norman.

Scott is fine his a leader in defence and is what we need.

Moeroa is starting to shit me he has had enough chances to prove himself, look at Taumalolo and look at Moeroa, obviously he will never be as good as Taumalolo but he has minimal impact weekly.

When is he gonna bend the line?

Mannah is excellent at getting a fast play the ball and he's very good at driving forward when he hits the line.

Unfortunately we haven't got a good enough hooker to reliably create a roll on from that when it does happen.

I reckon our pack is mediocre. Besides Mau they are all average first graders. And yep, I agree with the hooker part. I've been banging on about our 9 crisis for 12 months.

My wishlist for 2018 (actually right now) would be a good hooker and a damaging front rower
