Moses will be fine, BA would have done his homework. It's not like NRL coaches watch a few games on Foxsports, and go gee let's sign him. He / they would have watched a lot of videos to analyse who they should chase.

Of all the halves available BA chased Moses, so for me considering how much BA rates defence, it's clear BA thinks Moses will go ok in defence under him.

Considering how BA treated Sandow, I seriously doubt he would put himself in the same position again and sign a half that won't put in, in defence.

Also a lot of defence is based on attitude, and while Sandow was small he simply wasn't willing in, plenty of times in defence. If Moses attitude is right and he is willing enough he will be fine in defence.

People go on about Maloney being a bad defender based on missed tackle stats alone ... but i actually see maloney trying to put his body in there ..... the thing that was pretty awful from moses last night was the girly shirt grabs

But often that's about being isolated as much as being a poor defender. When you're caught in an isolated situation you often find that you make poor efforts like that because you're trying to work out where you need to be and where your mates are. He also drove Walker (or maybe Johnston?) back about 10m in a tackle....

I don't like death riding but f**k, reading all the Sandow bashing is hilarious.

At least Sandow had some ball skills, vision and a precise kicking game that at times would have made Johns blush... At least he made the best of a shit team and provided some excitement. Moses is unproven and if some of the games I have watched lately are anything to go by, a dummy spitter... sure he wants to leave the Tigers, but look at the amount of players that have wanted to leave the Eels lately ESPECIALLY in that position.. The eels aren't immune from this kind of attitude.

If some of you want someone that can control a game and you want someone that also comes with some professionalism (on and off the field, another thing this position we are seeking has been lacking over the last decade), the obvious answer is Cronk and it's not like the Eels don't have the spare cash. He is someone that won't f**k off or mentally check out of the club just to get a pay cheque.

At least everyone isn't stroking their dick as hard anymore as they initially were. I honestly think Gutherson provides just as much as Moses will.

I haven't read much of the last 30+ posts in this thread yet, however it seems there is some concern about Moses's defensive skills.

I only have 1 question and it is an honest one (meaning i am interested in the answers).

When and who was BA's last recruitment error of a first grade player?

Watmough and Foran ring any bells?

He played well in the season he played for us, made a hundred metres in his last game before getting season ending surgery, and then didn't bother our salary cap for the rest of his contract. We also don't know how much he was on. I'd say he was on the same money as many rep forwards who play long minutes. Probably overs, but we also know we had plenty in TPAs in 2015, which kept his price down under the cap.

here is some defensive stats from the poorer defensive but promising (or elite) halves:

Taylor - 116 tackles from 154 attempts. 75%. 9 games

Elgey - 116 of 157. 74%. 8 games

Moses - 126 from 156. 76%. 9 games

Milford - 100 from 134. 75%. 9 games

Thurston - 89 from 116. 77%. 6 games

Widdop - 102 from 130. 78%. 8 games.

Cleary - 143 from 163. 88%. 9 games

Maloney - 116 from 171. 63%. 9 games.

Freak - Cooper, 141 from 151. 93%

So while poor defensively, he has some pretty good company as well!!

Ps - Norman has 86% and Gutherson 88% tackle success rate.

He's about where most halves are defensively. Will always miss a few and can have a shocker but generally not a liability unless he gets isolated (which is more likely to happen in a poor defensive line. I keep saying it because people seem to ignore it).

Norman has improved a hell of a lot though. He's made some up and in reads this season that have stopped dangerous movements absolutely dead. And Gutho being so high is no surprise. He'll be a very good centre.

Yep and Moses in a better defensive structure (and better attitude) could probably get into the 80-85% tackle success rate, which makes him no liability for a half compared to other halves.
