Rumours and Stuff

What? Boyd has played almost his whole career at fullback for his club, similar to Hayne and Inglis. They are all genuine spine players. The guys you mentioned are usually wingers and Centre's at club football. They fill in in the spine occasionally . Except Oates. No idea why u put him in that category.
My point is that you added Boyd as a rep spine player when St George won the GF. Boyd was a rep winger who was only in his 2nd year as a club fullback after being a winger for all his Brisbane days. So using him as validation for your argument is pretty much the same as adding the other players i mentioned

No I added Boyd as a spine player for the Dragons (the other players aren't spine players for their clubs) who played rep football. Keep up

This is what I was responding to Hybrid:

PS - Actually at the time the Dragons didn't have a current rep player in their spine in 2010. Just a middle forward, although Hornby had played the season before

'Their spine' is referring to the Dragons. It doesn't say anything about what position they played in for QLD. I pointed out Boyd. To which Chipmunk agreed

You'd think a team with only 4 players who hadn't played rep football would perform better then.
Or maybe they did play OK until 2 of their in-form players in Brown and Jennings left the field injured.
Raiders are 4th line in betting for the Premiership and we lost by 6 points not by 30+

What was their excuse against Roosters, Warriors, TItans, Sharks and Raiders the first time?

And that is why I said by that argument we could buy any rep player regardless of position and put them in our spine and they would still fit your criteria.
Anyway the point really doesn't matter. I actually agree that we need better players than what we currently have in the middle forward position

I dunno,
I try not to get in the habit of making excuses for losses because in my opinion there are simply too many variables in play in each game of rugby league to split teams with similar skill levels in their rosters.

It could be attitude, weather, opposition tactics, individual(s) performance, rub of the green, complacency, referee decisions, John Grant,a fight with the spouse, pending court cases, new combinations, niggling injuries, bad fish meal, contract concerns, coaching tactics, mental health, wrong boots, toss of the coin, etc...

Mostly I reckon it is because the other team played better at the time. I just don't profess to know why.

Chipmunk's point (and I agree with him) is that it is essential to have current rep quality players in your spine and in the middle. And history shows that all premiership winning teams in the NRL era , (except the bloody Knights in 2001 - Josh perry played origin afterwards) had current rep players (genuine rep players - NSW,QLD AUS, NZ, ENG) in their spine and middle forwards.

French is in his first season at fullback and also coming back from injury..... Why are people jumping up and down???

I recall when he injured his knee, all the fans were devastated. Now he's become the 2017 scapegoat, 1 game after injury.

Go figure...

Anyone else remember the last time we went out and bought a current representative prop for big money?

That turned out well.

How many games do you expect a team to win without TPAs and at least the value of Mitch Moses' contract under the salary cap?

They don't have excuses because they don't need them. They're performing as well as expected.

Exactly. Just like any player, a lot of these rep forwards look better than they are because they're in strong teams. Look at all the people carrying on about how overrated Aaron Woods is, stuck in a shitty Tigers side.

Manly's squad is no better, either is the Dragons. I'd suggest they only have as much TPA's as us. I'm sure like us expect to play finals football with the squad they have.

lazarus, kennedy, fitzgibbon etc etc and for us morrison, dean paye, beau scott

all some examples of rep quality transfers that can be deemed successful.

poore's failure says more about us and our ability to identify and secure better quality recruits.

Gee there's some cheery folk out on the forum today.

Despite our mental injury toll (Jennings, Norman, IDG, Fritchard, Peni, Bevan (back now), Taka, Brown), only for and against is keeping us out of the 8.

We aren't far away and we've recruited Kane Evans and Mitchell Moses - pretty good for less than half way though the year. Cheer up - we're one or two players away.

We're all frustrated, we're all impatient, but we're about to have a stack of home games (at a venue where, despite what many might suggest, we have a pretty good record in recent years).

Let's see how we go in the next couple of weeks before we assume we're doomed for all eternity.

A week is a long time on the forum when we lose.
