Rumours and Stuff

He was well ahead of Gutherson's numbers. Moses was best, followed by Norman, French and Ma'u. But French only played half the season at fullback. Gutherson only played nine games, so the samples weren't the most reliable.
What's the stat site again? Serious question, I've lost the link. I want to see gutho vs French at fullback.

Ok just saw edit. Is working out who got what stats when at fullback a fool's errand?

Here's where you show your ignorance. These people have spent their lives in the game. They get paid a lot of money to understand it and assess risk effectively, yet you think they would forget to sign the best possible players to create an effective team.

The fact is there is a salary cap, and 16 clubs competing for players. It just isn't possible for everyone to have the complete team every year without any weaknesses. And even when a suitable player is available the club is hampered by the players already contracted there.

Just because someone has spent their life in the game or gets paid to do a job doesn’t necessarily mean they are good at it. Are you saying people don’t make mistakes or poor choices?

NRL.com's compiled stats have been dumbed down to the point even Glenneel could read them. You would have to go some where with a solid catalogue of individual games stats and add them up.

The NRL site is barely navigable this year. So it's mc.championdata.com? I only use the phone lately so it looks like I'll have to break out the tablet.

The two most important things for deciding possession are handling and discipline. Anyone who has ever played a single match can tell you that.

The pack and your halves can certainly be important for field position depending how you play, but for possession you need to hold the ball and not give away too many penalties. You drop it a lot, or you give away a lot of penalties, then you defend more, you tire faster, and you make more errors and give away more penalties.

The better (and size can play a part here) your forwards are the more you will win the ruck, the more momentum you'll have, the more room (and time) the halves will have to run, pass, kick, plan, organise. If this (and hopefuĺly it does) translates into tries (or even penalty goals) then you get more possession. With more possession, momentum and confidence, comes less pressure; therefor increasing the liklihood of more discipline, fewer penalties conceded, fewer mistakes overall. It's very difficult to be disciplined, hang on to the ball, have a good kicking game and make sound decisions when you are constantly on the back foot and under continued pressùre.

And this is why he is probably our best fullback, despite Hayne and French being better runners and better playmakers. Gutherson just does so much work, like Slater and Tedesco. That try Gutherson scored against Manly, someone mentioned nobody else in our team would have scored that and someone else arced up about it, saying Hayne would have scored it easily. But that merkin missed the point. He was thinking just from the point where Gutherson caught the ball, in which case plenty of our players would have scored the try. But players like Hayne (or anyone else in our team) wouldn't have even been there to take Moses' pass. Therefore they wouldn't have scored the try.
The "someone"was me. Not everyone gets my posts like you do Poo. Lol.

Mate, you and everybody else that tows the same line(Pou) ask yourselves, why do we keep losing the possession stat? The better team, forwards in particular end up with the better possession. Especially when it counts, generally at the start of games. It can even out at the end because the dominating/winning team can ease off once they have perceived that the game has been won and then the possession stat ends up being skewed somewhat. But they had the lions share when it counted because they earned it and the win.

How hard is it to understand that? Pretty basic really. You earn possession it isn't just given to you and you can earn penalties too, which we seldom do.

If you don’t think attitude has a massive impact on possession numbers then I don’t know what to say.

I reckon all of our fullbacks would have scored that try off a similar break. The difference with Gunco was in the lead up he had spread to the left for a sweep that way, play broke down, the ball got hot potatoed back to the right and rather than meandering around on the left, he moved back towards the ball and was available when Moses broke towards the middle

I'm saying they don't make the kinds of mistakes any fan could identify.
Most fans aren’t smart enough and don’t know enough about managing a football team because they’ve never experienced it.

They also have a very limited understanding of what the coach thinks and the inner workings of the club and tend to make weird logic leaps based on the limited information that they have.

@Glenneel and @TheRam have a gold medal in logic leaps.

I’d love to sink the boot in to a few deathriders but seriously, let’s not get too wooftery about the comment about Mrs Baz.

It was in poor taste but it’s not even close to the most offensive thing that has ever been posted on this forum.

What was said and by who?
