2 things:
1. If you pay him 200k he will still likely still be in our top 30 players so then we are 1 squad member short.
2. Also what 'gun' is available for around 625k a year? Please don't tell me that we should keep it free 'in case' someone becomes available next year. Merkins were saying that about us this year and we signed no one.
Ferguson 500k?????

Well if that’s the case then they haven’t brought players into this year’s squad once Mbye and Woods left? Doesn’t that suggest that the salary cap space attributable to this year took up a roster spot, even when they were playing elsewhere? Why would next year be any different if the amount paid under the cap places it in the top 30.

You have missed the point, Gronk said this:

Nope. Proshenks talks here about the Dogs where they are paying for Graham and Kasiano, yet still have 30 spots in their roster.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/bu...ase-big-names-until-2021-20180517-p4zfz3.html

You said this:

The article doesn’t say that at all. It says they have 5 spots to fill in their top 30. This could be spots 23-28 for all we know.

I said this:

Well they have 27 player profiles on their website:

https://www.bulldogs.com.au/teams/

And none are probably on development contracts plus add Moses / Woods, that’s 29 players

The point being based on their website it appears they started the year with at least 29 players, but they are also still paying 2 players to play somewhere else thus Noise theory may not be correct, as they have 31 players

Additionally there are some other players like Josh Cleeland and Zac Woodford who were also contracted too I think for 2018.

But hasn’t Jennings been rubbish this year and part of the reason we are going crap?

While I agreed you can’t be paying to many players to be playing somewhere else (and definitely not for a player over multiple years), letting Jennings go and playing $$250k-$300k and freeing up $500k may be an ok option.

All depends if we have suitable options available.

We already have Salmon on contract, the new Fiji player, plus the young players playing NSW cup (Gl, and the 2 under 20 players Parry/Dunster), thus if they can cover a spot in the backs for bugger all cost, we then have $500k to spend some where else.

Maybe the thinking is the younger players have come on quicker then expected and it’s time to more Jennings on if possible.
So we offload Jennings and Norman and are paying about 600k for them to play elsewhere???

And we wonder why we are the continual joke of the league.

f**k quality replacements if the bloke is past it and has a shit attitude, replace them with up and comers who want to prove themselves, it’s called blooding junior talent!
What if the junior talent isn’t good enough??? It’s called smart cap management and paying 300k for someone to play elsewhere isn’t smart. Well it wasn’t when Ricky did it. But BA does it and it’s called blooding juniors.

Excusamatta.

Ferguson 500k?????

What? Where did I say Ferguson was 500k? We have already signed Fergusson whether we release Jennings and pay him a shitload to play elsewhere or not. Ferguson is not jennings replacement. I said which gun is available now as a replacement.

We have been hearing about our great junior talent since forever. They are always massively over rated. Who was the last star we produced? Hayne?

This.

Been hearing about our brilliant up and comers for eons and since 1987 they've delivered f**k all. Jump on any other teams dedicated fan sites and they no doubt have threads babbling on about their next batch of killer juniors too.... The reality is that out of the youngsters sixties gushed about in that TCT article this week, 1 of them, maybe 2 at a stretch, will go on to be NRL regulars. The rest will be lucky to play 10 or 20 first grade games before becoming names in a "Junior's you thought would make it" thread 7 or 8 years from now.

And before the gronk and Co reply saying "So we should just stop trying to nurture and promote our juniors?" - not saying that at all, but what I am saying is that I think its naive at best to think the likes of Dylan Brown, Mahoney, Kaufusi, Afualo, Dressler, Stone and Co are going to form the nucleus of a team that is going to carve up and dominate in the coming years. What makes this years awesome as f**k juniors any better than the awesome as f**k juniors from last year or 2014?? or 2010 or 2008 or 2006 or 1991 or 1989 or.... You get my drift....

If the amounts the players they are paying to play elsewhere do not make them a top 30 amount then they won’t take up a roster spot. I’ve got no idea how much they’re subsidising. Do you?

Also, I don’t think player profiles are a reliable indicator of top 30 roster spots as some include development players, others don’t and I’m sure clubs upload profiles of players who are permitted to play NRL outside the top 30 as it is would be of interest to fans to find out more about that player.

Did i miss something?

Have Jennings and Norman signed elsewhere already or are we just hypothesising (sp) in order to deride the club again?

Fact is Dargan was raved about on here as next big thing. Had it all.
Tui Aufalo was also drooled pver as the next sure thing first grader.
Pauli Pauli was like nothing we ever seen before and Tanginoa and Davis where the best juniors since Hindmarsh and Lyon.

Reality is we have not produced an origin rep since Hayne who debut over 10yrs ago.
Tepai is a first grader but currently that is all. Bevan seem closer to the dump heap then a first grader let alone a star.
Guys like Salmon give some hope as does Mahoney but neither have done anything to make you go wow. Of course it is early on, same goes for Marata but I do not get excited about these gun juniors. Everyteam has them and our track record has been garbage.
Plus if they where all future NRL players I reckon we would of won a few under 20s finals. I think we finished 6th this season. I know a few played up a grade but I am guessing the same happend for other clubs too.

All hypotheticals, if it was up to me I would piss the coach off who is as stale as one of Pete’s jokes and keep Norman and Mennings.

But if we do let Jennings and Norman go I can see us dumping in a whole chunk of change.

So while we are playing hypotheticals... if you had to choose just one for 2019, who would you choose to keep between Norman and Moses?

To be fair, I think when as fans we see juniors coming through, we can only judge on aptitude and so we 'rave' about what we see on the field in Flegg, NYC, etc.
The coaching staff however also get to judge on attitude and they make a call also on the ability of the player to do the hard yards that is needed to maintain the aptitude they displayed in the juniors into first grade.

I am not sure what happened to Aufalo and Dargan, however Pauli Pauli, Tanginoa and Davis obviously didn't have the attitude and were all released once it was identified.
