Out.
Beau Scott
Kenny Edwards
Vae
Matagi
Davis
Williams
King
Hayne
Auva

In
Ferguson
Paulo
Lane
Davey
Sivo

I guess if you compare estimated salarys, and assume we were on our limit last season, the numbers probably closely balance and suggest we have again maxed (no pun intended) out.
Then we also need to consider Norman, Moses and Mennings have back ended contracts as well as the need to upgrade some of our promoted juniors.
Its scarey what some very average footy players can earn at our club.

Those players in the Out have got to have been on at least $2 million between them. There is no way that Lane, Davey and Sivo are costing us more than $350k in total. That's $1.65 million at least left for Junior, Ferguson and upgrades.

Lane will be far superior to KE lol. Dont be suprised if he pushes for origin duties. His name will atleast be mentioned

Lane has been a fringe non Top 17 player at three different clubs his entire career, but he's about to become an Origin contender with the Wooden Spooners?

I dont believe we only have 200k left .... its not even 2 minimum salary spots ... dunno if proshenko has done some rounding there

Look, we just need to sign him and go over a bit .... call it a technical breach - teams do that every year .... "oh my goodness, how did that happen? Just a rounding problem. Its ok, our budget will include a calculator for 2020"

Bernie's quote here - "We have a couple of spots left on our roster at the lower end of the dollar value in the salary cap,"

Min wage is $105k...two spots left...2 x $105k equals $210k.

$200k seems about right...

But is that really the case? Not saying you're wrong, but everything I've read said clubs must have 30 players at 30 June. At 30 June, Edwards wasn't one of our players. The rules are probably more precise, but it's just another case of poor NRL/media communication IMO

It seems like yet another flaw in the system. Unless I am wrong, the standard contact period runs Nov to Nov, so if you have already paid a player more than your 30th paid player and they leave then you have no way of replacing them without exceeding the salary cap??

I believe I was correct, their spots remained in the top 30 due to their pro rata salaries.

The club tried several times to get both Brown and Uitocama approved for debuts, and NRL wouldnt allow,it as we still had players in the top 28 avaiable to cover those positions. Difficult to understand when the Donkeys played. Kotoni Staggs about 10 times, but that's Toddys rules.

Last year it went on your top 30 paid players through the season. So once it got to a certain point you couldn't add to the squad if you had paid a player too much for part of the season. The dogs did not have a full squad last year as they were paying players to play elsewhere. Next season you can still pay players to play elsewhere but you need to have a 30 man squad that has to be under the cap.

The Dragons had one season of winning more than half their games and now they’re the example of a successful club? Get f**ked. We had two such seasons in ‘16-‘17 but now we had one bad season we’ve suddenly got the worst squad in the NRL?

The lack of TPAs doesn’t mean we can’t have good seasons (look at 2017). But it does mean that unless we want to run ninth every year we need to take risks like back-ending contracts and signing players with discipline/attitude/injury concerns. It means we will have good and bad years, just like the Dragons.

Our squads better then Tigers who finished 9th. Going into 2019 I know what team id have more confidence in.

Niukore is pretty average. He didn't make 1 line break in first grade this year. And in his 14 games only had 9 tackle busts. Pretty poor for an edge player

So....Players take 40 + first grade games to get up to speed. And its a roll on effect. Niakuore off the bench with a better forward pack and more powerfull winger would become far more devestating. What where you expecting?
Most 2nd rowers would of done same and Niakuore the way our team was going.

The reason that Scott and Edwards weren't replaced in the top 30 , was because their pro rata salaries kept them in the top 30 paid players, and therefore remained in the squad from a NRL standard.

As I have said before , could you imagine another club not being able to conjure a deal for someone like JH that wants to stay, Uncle Nick and Thoroughbreds would make it happen, and the NRL would applaud them as they usually do.

Gus would make it happen with a click of fingers

Lane is 23....A tall white boy who is starying to fill out.
He spent 2016/2017 injured quite a lot..at the age of 21 and 22.Apparently his attitude was a little poor at Dogs but showed promise as a 20yld.
This season he was Manlys most consistant performer. He will add another 4 kgs to his frame and start the season at age 24. He wont have hit his peak but he will be starting too. A guy like Lane only needs to find another 10% power and he goes from being a solid guy to an excellent player who gets talked about for origin.
I do not see any weakness in his game bar there are more powerfull runners.
Injuries have slowed his development and guys with his body type always take a few years longer to develop.
Islander boys seem to be closer physically at a younger age but heck Kikau only become a regular first grader this season.LANE is 4mths older and missed the last 2 seasons.....

So the club wanted to debut Brown last season. That has me think this year is certain.
Also has me think Norman will be fullback when Brown debuts. Norman and Moses are both too good for Wenty.
I am starting to see why we didnt sign Hayne now.

Hayne for all his talent will eventually cost a young kid a spot. It’s unfortunate we weren’t able to offload Jennings/taka to fit him in. I applaud the club for not caving in to his asking price. Amazing he wanted to wait till end of the season to decide his future. Coincidence that’s when he struck some form? I think Hayne out foxed himself this time. We all know he loves the club, just a shame he loves money a little more.
