The nathan brown situation shows clubs can't and shouldn't whinge when players want to bail early from contracts.

Fans can be filthy with the players.

But the clubs will throw you to the scrapheap the moment they realised they stuffed up and your on too much money or too long a contract.

The club should be relieved they only got Nrown a 2 year contract so we are only paying freight for 12 months.

It is also a big shift on what we have done under MON. Since 2019 we have had a policy if you have a contract we generally honour it and won't force you out the door unless there is a better offer where we won't be paying any frieght anyway like Will Smith for example leaving to the titans.
Let me tell you mate it ain’t all sunshine and rainbows when it comes to MON.

Can’t wait until they f**k him off.

I must say that as the season has progressed, I'm becoming more and more concerned for 2023 and beyond. I was relatively optimistic earlier in the year even with old man Hodgson coming over and the losses of Paps, Marata, Matto et al.... But with some of our older blokes lull in form and given we've got several of them tied up for another 3-4 after 2022, and now this latest development with Brown, things seem to be heading in the wrong direction quicker than I think most would have anticipated....

But they aren't pushing him out. He wants to secure something past 2023 and we have said he wont be resigned with us past that time and if he can get a longer contract elsewhere we wont stand in his way.
If not he stays with us until the end of next season

Nrown will turn 30 before next years season kicks off so I reckon this is a combination of he isn't getting any younger, we have player like Rodwell who are ready, and we need his money for someone else. He has been a great servant of the club for 6 years and helped transform us from a pack with a soft underbelly into one of the toughest packs in the NRL.

...with schizophrenic tendencies.

Will Smith wasn't contracted for this season I think.

Up until last year I would have given him a pass mark.

Not so sure now I just don't understand what the club's vision is or what we are building towards.

The squad balance looks like it slowly being bent out of shape.

Being a development club takes time.

But we are signing journeyman in Ogden and Makatoa on multiple year contracts who have shown nothing so far then being below average.

A busted dummy half in Hodgo to replace Reed.

Outside of Will penisini and Dylan Brown is there anyone else at the club under 23 that excites you that they will be a future rep player that will play 200 games for the club.

rather frustrating that we develop so many players and can't afford to keep them

It is not a matter of not being able to afford them ffs! Don't fall into the trap and mindset of pou and his posse of apologists.

It's all about having the right people around them and in charge that are quality and know how to massage a roster and the personalities within it that makes all the difference. The best do it and the also rans like us keep building and then collapsing without any silverware to show for it and then roll out the excuses. Can't wait for this end of season letter to the fans to hit.

Until we get the development personnel and coaching staff right we will never win a premiership. That's why getting a guy like Ciraldo or Flanagan, both who know how to develop junior systems and very good coaches who build their teams on defense(I know Ciraldo still needs to prove himself at NRL level) is what we need to do immediately. Otherwise we will plummet very quickly into a sh*t cellar dweller and then it will become a very hard resurrection that could take years if not a decade. We have history that shows just this scenario happening.

I would also go hard and sack Mark O'Neill and hire Tim Sheens. I know it wouldn't be easy, but I would keep at it until he relented. Even if it took a year or 3 to get him here. I would give him whatever he needed to do the job that very few know how to do properly. Our junior systems as much as people here keep waxing lyrical about, are a shadow of what they used to be. If it isn't addressed correctly, we may see the juniors shrink even further. I am really hoping that the new COE in a very fast growing region of outer Sydney's North West pays huge dividends and grows the game massively out there and we become the beneficiaries, but that is something that may or may not happen for at least a decade or so and again will probably rely heavily on who is running all the programs we put in place.

We need real change otherwise it will be same old, same old and we will be looking at 50+ years without title success before we know it. Well the ones of us who are still alive anyway. Not meant to be a joke, this is a very real possibility if we don't fix sh*t now!

On our recruitment……Interestingly the club apparently isn’t ruthless enough, yet we tell Nrown he isn’t in our future and the club is a basket case (yet roosters do something similar and they are brilliantly managed cough cough flanagan)….

and yeah yeah I agree, we need some signing’s especially on the edges to cover our loses but our recruitment isn’t finished, so let’s judge the final product (and performance…) not the mid process…..

I had to laugh watching the great cornholio on Fox telling us all it’s not a game anymore it’s a business concerning Brown. It didn’t seem like a business when his sprog was fast tracked into the top 30 last year and continually being picked ahead of what was best for the team.

It doesn’t seem like a business when you have an 8 year coach who has achieved absolutely nothing getting another contract extension that contains absolutely no KPI’s whatsoever. He looks smarter with the hood pulled over his dopey head.

And I think Will Smiths contract ended and we just didnt extend it. Which would be why we didnt have to pay his freight at the Titans. The OP is a little bit confused about how the end of contracts work I think.
