If we miss the semis and BA is boned I think having Nathan Brown (the former coach) at the club is the best possible interim coach to recruit until we land our prime target that is probably still under contract. I’m talking Bellamy, Payten, Robinson etc.

Greig is contracted for next year and playing fairly well in reserve grade. It's possible he has a match payments component in his contract, meaning games played this year increase his cap value for next year. We might intend to play him in every game next year but don't want his cap value to be too high. Therefore he won't get played this year unless he demands selection.

As for Tapau, I agree that he is over-rated, but he's still a good player, and he fits our physical play style well.

Astute signing that wouldn't have cost too much, imo.

It's smart if you can rort it. But also risky. He could be on $10k per game next year (plus base) and only cost his base salary plus ten grand on the cap. But if our injury crisis had been in the middle and we were forced to give him a dozen games he is suddenly costing us an extra hundred grand under the 2023 cap. It probably is a bit dumb but also very exciting.
