Not disputing how bare we are in outside backs. One of the challenges faced when trying balance a salary cap and a 30 man squad I guess.

Do you think we should we weaken our pack and spine to sign better outside backs?
With the money we are saving from the departures of Blake, Hodgson, Murchie and Davey combined with us not taking up the option for Ogden I’d definitely prioritise backs over forwards.

Mind you, we have maybe 10 players in that Flegg team that need to be secured for the future. Other teams are not living in a bubble and will be eyeing them off. Merkins might need to face the facts that 2024 will start will Simonsson with pressure on him from below by Telagi et al. Like normal clubs.

Yes, I’d prefer Billy Smith or a trade with Ricky for Sanders, but maybe we need the cash and pathways for these once in a while batch of kids ?

Simmonson would be costing what he is worth. It's not a terrible situation. Unlike Waqa who was getting half a mill to play NSW CUP..
Huggers want to beleive Penrith where still paying some. Not true..
Our squad is far better in 2024 then 2023 while carrying Waqa,Hodgson,N.Brown. 1.4 mill of wasted money. Throw in Murchie and your around 1.65.....
With injuries as well no wonder we didn't play finals.

Didn’t you tell me yesterday not to get excited over Martin because he’s just a Flegg player?? Now you are saying we shouldn’t go to market to bolster our embarrassingly weak outside back stocks because these same Flegg players???

Make up your mind merkin ffs!!

I wasn’t at the final home game for the year but i asked a mate and he said there was no confirmation of players leaving the club at end of season. Maybe we didn’t want to give too much away RE Greig and Carty.
So Ogden is gone then? Bit of movement still to happen soon then..

Our dope of a CEO gave us nothing new in terms of departing players in his email spiel the other day.

This is all he said about the R&R.

Another positive in 2023 has been the retention of some of our key NRL players which establishes a strong foundation for our roster into season 2024 and beyond. Mitchell Moses, Dylan Brown and Will Penisini have signed long-term contracts with the Club and we have also seen contract extensions for eight of our current players including J’maine Hopgood, Brendan Hands and Maika Sivo.

I’d expect one soon announcing maybe a couple of signings and re-signings. But, who knows haha.

So instead of cutting the coard the Dragons want to drag this out for atleast another year... Yeah that's going to work out well

If they just rolled over they would be worse off, unless they can just pluck a superstar half from the superstar tree that people seem to think exists.

Oaf the new coach should do whatever possible to hold on to the one of the few quality halves that exists in the NRL today. Hunt will fall into line if the Dragons hold firm. Time is against him at his age and I would tell him in no uncurtain terms that they have a binding contract and he needs to honor it otherwise he won't get paid.

Without him they will remain at the foot of the ladder for years to come and everyone and his dog will turn on the coach and blame him for his terrible recruiting.

Look at the dogs. It hasn't taken long for everyone to blame the new coach and football manager.

Jeez people just don't do any critical thinking anymore.

We would definitely need huge resources to sign a 24-year-old reserve grader from the team that ran 15th

I was being facetious. There are plenty of lower grade players that we should and could target that have more potential than the lumps we have currently running around in NSW Cup, who for whatever reason haven't kicked on and may just need a change and different path to the NRL.

They are going to remain at the Foot of the ladder for the next 2 seasons even with Hunt at the club....

Having a player who doesn't want to be there does nothing positive for your teams culture. Let him go now use that cash on players that are going to build the team culture.

Yes critical thinking..............

Sorry, I was out with family and couldnt be bothered scrolling back to see who I had already quoted.

You don't think that 85 first grade games makes him NRL standard?
I disagree.

He wasn't NRL standard in a majority of his games last season - I probably should have started with that...\
He wasn't alone though in not being NRL standard in a lot of games Sivo for mine would have played cup if we had a decent backup.

He also didn't have an offseason to train as he was getting over a shoulder injury. I do think if he can get his defense right he would make a handy center.

Or keep him there and back yourself as a coach that can get the squad moving forward and playing well and then hopefully the quality half that doesn't want to be there sees the improvements and jumps on board and plays out his contract at the club.

Lets face it most players want to leave for another because their current club is inferior to the club that they are with or money. Money isn't the reason this time, so the Dragons need to play better and he will change his tune.

I would insist he stays or no pay. Period!

Those in the know are saying Fleggs best performance of the year was V The Brave Chooks the week the "Gun" Fleggers were promoted into the 2s which will make Saturdays game extremely interesting. That being the case Id like to think we know which ones to keep which may not be as obvious as it appears. Nice to have choice I suppose. Cant wait for Sats game.
