What sort of serious injury are they exposed to when they are boxing merkins who are not likely to land one square ?

Reg is sparring with Jason Taumalolo. Are they really going to hit each other ?

Junior is boxing Ben Hannant FFS.

actually, isn't that mormon V mormon?

that's kinda hilarious if it is.

Yes I have my 2024 season tickets sorted and I cant wait.
As always I remain hopeful but given the status quo applies I can see Our Eels finishing 14th to 16th next year.
The only team Im confident of finishing above is The Tigpies.
I expect this years top 8 will win more than they lose so they will be there abouts again although The Raiders may falter.
Also rans outside the top 8 this past season who I think will improve are,
Cows. Great roster and will learn from 2023
Sea Eagles. Another year wiser and Turbos return
Phins. Bennett factor, teething problems sorted plus great recruitment
Tits. The Des factor and a very talented roster.
The Rabbits will probably be there abouts same as 2023.
Bringing up the rear will probably be
The Saints. Decent roster and a very experienced premiership winning coach so improvement is definitely possible.
The Dogs. Crichton should make a difference plus lots of selection options, also a lot of dead wood moved on.
This brings us to Our Eels. Same, same and more of the same. Its another disrupted end of season for many players involved in the international games along with boxing commitments for Jnr and Reg. These off seasons effected us in 2018 and 2023. 2024 will be the same. I cant see our talented juniors contributing much until hopefully 2025.
We will need to be far more disciplined and have minimal injuries to improve.
Will a season such as Ive predicted provide an impetus for change?
Thoughts?
(Sorry for the Ram like contribution)
Its very exciting.

Whether something ‘shouldn’t’ happen is one thing.
Understanding ‘why’ it is happening is another.
‘Knowing’ why is another thing altogether.

Having conversations about these things is good. Getting into arguments about it is even fine. Insulting one another and getting personal is not.

I’d like our team to end this drought sooner rather than later, just like everyone else here. We are all Eels fans and we can at least respect each other as such.

Except @hindy111. He’s a Panthers fan.

I think most of us understand enough of why things happen at the club eventually or even know enough too...eventually.

You seem to think this is our first rodeo. We don't need to know each and every specific detail. This is a results driven business that has clear and measurable success or failure markers, with a GF victory lap being the undisputed symbol of success if you have incrementally succeeded in all the little steps of success along the way to get you that ultimate prize.

We as fans just need to look at patterns and trends since we aren't privy to all the day to day, behind closed doors goings on. And after 37+ years of stop start, up down, one step forward two steps backward, clown behaviour and results, we tend to recognise loser failure, get you no where, reactive not proactive, run out of ideas, cover my arse, negative decisions fairly quickly.

As for Hindy? No one is perfect, but he and I come pretty close.

And after 37+ years
We should’ve figured out by now that scapegoats aren’t to blame. There is an entrenched structural problem that I like to call resourcing. Some clubs are just streets ahead of the rest, and we aren’t one of them. Nobody needs to take the blame for that.

Questioning the club is fine.
But more often than not you are not simply questioning what they are doing, you are responding with attacks and insults towards the club, coach, players and people on here.

I understand that everyone reacts differently to things. Some react with anger and some react with reasoning. When people use reason (or ‘excuses’ as you put it) it makes you even more cranky.
I did notice yesterday you were happy to go into bat for Poups, a bloke who has attacked, abused, belittled more people on here than I’ve had hot dinners. And I love a hot dinner. I haven’t changed my posting style for over 16 years and I’m not about to now because poor Pou’s Fee fee’s have been hurt.

Me and Pou have been trading barbs for a long time and I have always enjoyed the banter, I always thought he felt the same. I don’t agree with him often but he’s still one of my favourite posters on here but maybe I just have a thicker skin(male pattern baldness will do that)than he or most. Do I cross the line?? I have no doubt I do but it’s never personal with me no one gives me more shit than myself. I’m not going to apologise or change my ways and if that bothers you there is always the going full Pou and putting me on ignore option.

Well I guess the first thing you need to ask yourself about these Mickey Mouse NRL boxing bouts is - has anyone been injured before ? Haven't these been going on for a decade ?

The high performance crew are all over these extracurricular things. I heard Toby Rudolf say this year after his did the big shave something like "the high performance guys stopped me short of shaving my eye brows !". That's cos they do a job in protecting the eye socket.

So after a decade of NRL off season boxing, I think it's a bit of a stretch to think that clubs like Cowboys, Eels, Storm, Tits are putting players at risk. Are they ?

I reckon playing rep footy would be more of a risk TBH.

Battle on the Reef fight card

  • Paulo Aokuso v Gabriel Omar Diaz for the IBO Intercontinental Light-Heavyweight Title
  • Jason Taumalolo v Reagan Campbell-Gillard (heavyweight)
  • Tevita Pangai Junior v Frank Amato (heavyweight)
  • Nelson Asofa-Solomona v Jarrod Wallace (heavyweight)
  • Junior Paulo v Ben Hannant (heavyweight)
  • Justin Hodges v Matt Cooper (heavyweight)
  • Jermaine Pangai v Nepote Dawadawa (heavyweight)
  • Austin Aokuso v Filimoni Naliva Jr (cruiserweight)

100% the players are putting themselves and the club at risk. No one knows what's going to happen in those 4 rounds of boxing.

They are not going to go there and dance around.

It's great they are keeping fit but I don't care about this bout I care about season 2024.

Paulo is also playing in these test matches so when does he get a break when everyone else is back at training now?

Rugby League is a funny sport. On one hand, we're penalise players for contact with the head and then allow the same players to potentially have a life-ending contact with the head at the end of the season.
I do see the irony.

could u imagine the reaction if matto wanted to earn extra cash in the ring. maybe u could argue that if you want to do something that potentially increases CTE, then u can't put in a claim later on in life. i guess frequency might still come in to it

Its very exciting.

Same with me on the 2024 tickets Just need my seats!

I am always hopeful we will be better next year. We have a good side I just don't think we have the mentality as a club like the Panfers and also Broncos to win the Competition.

I think we could be in danger of dropping lower as you mentioned above a few clubs are starting to get better.

Titans will be very hard to beat next year will be fighting for the 5-6-7 spot

There you go. That is a perfect example of why people have had a gutful of you.

That victim mentality and then no one is to blame hypothesis that you love churning out.

I guess our club is run by no one and therefore no one is ever accountable.

Love your work pou. You are a freakin genius at being a plodding moron.

Now block me you freakin galoot. How dare you keep me out of the cool club! The pou club suck!!!

I'm not sure that's what he said. I think what he actually said was they help prevent sweat going into the eyes or something like that.

And when you are an athlete you don't want or need excessive salty sweat getting into your eyes now do you?

Not to mention the training for boxing where most of the damage to the head is done too.

And this is a perfect example of why I’ve been sticking up for him.

There is nothing wrong with what he said. You just don’t agree with it.

He wasn’t abusive. He didn’t call anyone names. Not insulting. You just attacked him for giving his opinion. You didn’t address what he said, only him as a poster.

See my post above in response to Ram.
Stuff like that happens more than you seem to think. Much more than Pou insulting others, despite what you may believe.
