Market value and contract value are two different things. Everyone can see Schuster is on overs (if $800k is accurate). The concern is if some clubs sign him (or Zac Lomax) on less than they are worth. What they are worth isn’t whatever overpaid contract they might’ve jagged from a desperate club, but it is worth more than some bullshit amount that a sombrero club like Easts or Brisbane might be imagined to offer.

$650k-$700k is fair for Lomax while $300k is an obvious pisstake. It’s similar with Schuster. I could handle some club signing him for $500k (hopefully not us) but $200k would be a sign that something stinks.

If a player has a Contract, he is entitled to get paid the full amount of the Contract and typically the two clubs bargain over who is paying what share of the Contract amount.

In a circumstance like Matterson where he wants out but the Club ostensibly wants to keep him, then the new club either pays full freight or the player cops a pay cut (can you guess which way with Matto?).

In a circumstance like Schuster we he wants to stay but Manly want him gone, Manly are going to have to pay some of the freight.

Schuster was part of the conflict between Benji & Scott Fulton. Fulton was trying to get Schuster to the Tigers on $800K and Benj said no. For the right price he could actually fill a missing link at the Tigers if he was prepared to put in the work and play 13.
1Bula. 6Galvin, 7.Sezer/Luai, 9 Api, 13 Schuster wouldnt be the worst spine. There are points in them.
