Rumours and Stuff

Well the player has to agree to it in the first instance. In this case the player wouldn’t have wanted to sign for the second year at f**k all in case he was killing it before the end of the first year. One year with player option is the compromise between a one and two year contract. Player managers won’t let talented youngsters sign long contracts at minimum salary any more because it removes their potential of a big pay day.
Market forces of course and the player manager will always want to do the best for his player and his own pocket.
However, how do they serve the club? It’s pure gambling that the player in this case is not good enough to get an offer elsewhere. Or we just end up paying more.
makes sense for the player, but in what way does it benefit the club? You either have a player who doesn’t take up his option because he will get more money elsewhere, or the player has not developed and therefore takes up the offer. Either way the club is being bent over

Not only that we sit in limbo while we wait for Blaize to make a decision.

And what precedent does it set for the rest of his career.

If were handing a Player Option's to him at 18 he is going to expect it as a bare minimum for the rest of his career.

Brings into focus the R&R team, which seems to lack experience in dealing with player managers. Dont think we see the better HOF/CEos line Ponisi , Cameron or even Richardson give ground like we seem to.

The clusterf**k of a contract the club gave Drown says all we need to know about precedent unfortunately

I have a problem giving an 18 year old so much power and leverage before he has laced a boot on FG.

We're not talking about a rep player here.
Call his bluff. As previously mentioned, the Knights have a glut of talented fullbacks coming through. Cant keep them all. Blaize has shown nothing at fullback and isn't even the Cup FB.
Add Connor Votano to the previous list.

That’s the issue, you can’t call his bluff as the option is in his favour. The club has to wait for him to decide or the sunset timeline to come into effect. It’s lose lose

Now we have a 19 year old kid who has shown absolutely nothing against men holding us to ransom. The people running the club and making footballing decisions are absolutely clueless.

You guys are really just having a rant for lols.

He's not going to exercise the option (because of the low $ value), options have a window to exercise ,so he will let that lapse. Which means he is on the market like any other player. So we have made him an offer BUT WHY HASN'T HE SIGNED WE ARE SUCH A SHIT CLUB.

So really, he's not holding us to ransom. He just hasn't accepted our offer which was above the low ball option amount.

No matter what, the club has done the wrong thing ?

You miss the point Gronk. How does the club benefit from giving the young player an option?

He is another overrated junior that can’t tackle. I once spoke to a coach and he advised me that their capability in defence is the first thing they look at. That’s why Hayne, Lyon and Dylan Brown made it and players like Kris Keating, Michael Witt and Docker Clay didn’t.

Taking the current PO is one thing but his manager is shopping him about to try and get an improved offer but if they take off the blinkers there are better options out there if its a backup FB we seek. With Lomax coming he would only be a backup centre.

Options are a gamble on a players talents. A low ball player option is low risk for our club and probably ACL injury insurance for Blaize. What could go wrong ? That Blaize plays reggies in 2025 after Dunster exits the Top 30 ? He will still be 19 turning 20 and has shown significant talent.

I don't get people who are experts in hindsight, when a manager is shopping a kid like Blaize, sometimes you need to make a commercial compromise. A gamble. Every club makes risks, the Roosters snapped up the Niutili-Schmidt brothers from us and had huge plans.
