Comparing two of the best run clubs in the NRL who might be offer a PO to a star player to us who have almost a third of the playing the playing roster on PO’s.

Heckle and Jeckle love those Apples to apples comparisons lol.

So they have star players with POs and Gus said he would only give a PO to a cheap youngster. Looks like there are legitimate reasons to offer player options to any sort of player. What’s your reason for whinging about ours?

We have twice as many as the next club you penis, if they were so great every club would be doing what we do. Yeah have a look at our squad our depth and the fact we have just 26 players. Yeah we are leading the way!!

The worst thing about player options is succession planning and if your star player decides not to take it. For example assuming this rumour has legs, Dylan Brown should wait until at least the new coach arrives and see if he has a change of mind or if the actual player is in the new coach’s plans.

It isn’t a direct example because he was under contract but the situation with Flanagan and Ben Hunt is a good example. Flanagan knew he had no succession plan so he dug his heels in and said no to a release. Now Hunt wants to stay and possibly extend.

If player options were that bad nobody would be doing them. They are a risk, and they bring a benefit. We are taking more risks than other clubs because we have to. You think you lot understand risk better than a bunch of ‘accountants’?

I couldn't be happier with how the club is going right now.

We are 15th or equal last with two of the worst performing clubs in the past 20 years in the Tigers & Titans. Neither side has won a final since 2011.

The Titans have made the finals just twice since 2010 & Tigers haven't played finals since 2011.

We have PO's on contracts coming out of our arse so any projected Salary Cap planning for the coming years is hamstrung 12 months out not knowing if blokes are taking up there options or not so contingencies are left to the last minute with no period to slowly work on any replacements in the background.

We still don't have a coach signed for 2025 despite the fact we sacked Brad Arthur 5 weeks ago today but was told by our chairman & CEO he was unofficially sacked on the 2nd May which is almost 7 weeks ago.

We have an interim coach with a 30% winning record in FG after 100+ games.

No recruitment can be done in the mean time as no one has a clue whose coaching or if they fit in any future plans.

Our outside back situation is a downright debacle Asi is only ahead of Harper as he offers more in attack.

Penrith who used to be our little brother are now gunning & on-track for 4-straight premierships.

Anyway back to Parramatta land things are going great we are surely on track to finally win a 5th premiership sometime this century its only another 76 years to jag one.

Up the mighty Blue & Golds & Parra till i die.

Spot on KG. Ppl make me laugh dead set. If our players defended like some defend our "never did anything wrong" club, we wouldnt have an issue.

Whether all of us numpties agree on things like options, can we all agree that the club is currently going round in circles. Poor R&R, losing too many juniors, somehow an incomplete roster and even worse not enough backs signed which makes no sense at all. Add in the glacial decision making on a number of fronts and we look worse than our partners in the bottom 4 . The junior sides are now looking better, will we retain the right ones and be able to build with targeted recruitment , not confident in that happening under current staff.

Financial competence has obviously been good, but the area where we fans look to has been declining far too fast . Even a new coach will need time and patience to restore the club, and some good people in coaching and recruitment beneath him.

What does player option mean in the NBA and how can it be used by teams and players during the free agency?​

NBA free agency is just around the corner, which means that player options are being picked up and declined across the league. Milwaukee Bucks champion Bryn Forbes is the latest player to decline his option and therefore will be seeking a new home when the window opens for negotiations to begin on Monday

In this article, we will examine why player options can be beneficial to both teams and players and what exactly they are in the context of free agency.

With player power growing ever stronger in the NBA, 'player options' are one of the most obvious examples of star's empowerment to decide their own future.

With this option, a player can decide whether to stay another year with their team or become an unrestricted free agent. For example, if a player has a contract that runs for three years but has an option in the fourth, exercising it would extend the contract through the fourth year while declining it would automatically put them into free agency, open to join another team.

The player option is non-negotiable and therefore cannot be revoked if it is already exercised. They also do not depend on how the player performs during a season or how many appearances they make and cannot have a lower salary.

There are a lot of benefits to players opting out of their deal. Most importantly, it gives them financial flexibility, allowing them to weigh up all impending offers. It also forces the hand of their former team to resign them if they have proved they are worth of a bigger pay-day.

However, it can come at a risk. Sticking or twisting is a challenging scenario for any player. Take Bryn Forbes and Bobby Portis for example. Forbes has, on Tuesday, opted out of his contract and will test free agency, while Portis could test free agency too if he wants a pay rise. In doing so, both could be risking the fact that the Bucks may choose not to re-sign them. Being in a winning franchise can be more important to players than a slightly larger pay cheque with no hopes of competing for a ring.

This is where teams' power comes into the equation. Bigger markets know that players will want to exercise their option if there is a chance of a title. It allows them to avoid paying larger salaries to players they know should be earning more. Alternatively, organizations can use their powers of persuasion if they believe a player is ready to decline his option by stating how big a contract they could offer.

In the 2021 NBA free agency market, the biggest names that could decline their player option are Chris Paul, Kawhi Leonard, Montrezi Harrell, Serge Ibaka and Josh Richardson. It remains to be seen how many of them will enter free agency, and how many re-sign
