Yeah I'm not sure clinging to the past is going to benefit the team. Is this something that Ryles and the players want or something the club thinks the fans want?

When I was in the army I had a vaguely related experience at a unit that had a fairly active veteran's association for former unit members. The association would put on functions where they would get together and tell warries and reminisce. They loved it when current serving members would attend, so the old fellas could feel a part of it. But they weren't a part of it any longer, and most blokes considered it a painful embuggerance to go along and listen to these old guys. Merkins wanted to get home to their families, or go out and smash moisties, or whatever the single blokes did. Anyway I'll never forget we had a sergeant major who once told us we should make the effort, because we'd all be has-beens too one day. And so we are.

Super impressive interview from Ryles. Seems big on consistency and doing the little things correctly. Something we never seemed to master under BA to be honest. We’d roll Penrith one week and lose to the Tigers or similar the next.
I was in a bar in Berlin the other day and ran into 2 blokes from Newy.

Massive footy and cricket fans we spoke for 3 hours about footy, cricket.

It was interesting getting there perspective on Parramatta from an outsiders point if view.

They mentioned they can never pick us over the past 4 or 5 years whatsoever one minute were beating the Storm and Penrith and then losing to the Tigers in the same month of footy for example.

They called us schizo.

One of them was actually a Broncos fans he didn't want to talk about last year's GF haha but agreed hewould rather have lost the way we did in 2022 then what happened last year.

Great interview and here is my quick summary...
Grew up supporting parra, every day improvements will transpire on the footy field, compete on every play, effort on effort, consistency with everything on and off the field, get back to the fans, sponsors, engage the old boys and they are welcome anytime even to eat dinner with them if they are interstate or at another venue away from the parra area. Few more spots to fill but talked about pathways being extremely important
Spoke about why he chose his assistants and was glowing in their endorsement.
Very good start in my eyes.

He seem to indicate he identified Sam Moa as someone that can connect with the Polynesian players and help build that connection and bring it all together.

With them being a large contingent across the game it's a very smart move.

Especially when wanting to build a strong culture you need an all in mentality.

Merkins who leave are merkins. Merkins who are forced out are good merkins.
Who forced Boooooooods out???

He had a contract here, his family supposedly love the club. Or because the gravy train has stopped they don’t love it anymore??

And yes poor Brad only got 11 seasons, so unfair!!

More contract extensions than finals wins.
It was so unfair how he was just forced out. He deserved a job for life there is no one better!!

So we will get Pricey, Kenny and the Grothes involved with the club?

No thanks. They can f**k right off and hang out in Spags’ basement.

Other former players are welcome though.
Like Tim Smith. What a rascal he was.
Yea I don’t want those blokes anywhere near the playing group. Give them free tickets to corporate suites and let them do a lap of the field on game day but that’s it.

Yeah I always wonder if the current players get much out of the older blokes around. Especially when the only ones who have actually won anything seem to be bitter old merkins who don’t understand how the modern game works.

Having them around the club for various events and such wouldn’t be a bad thing if it helps them still feel a sense of belonging to the team, but it doesn’t need to be an everyday thing.
